Ok, so i am riding diablo all weekend, i just wanted to get some feedback from people that have ridden there on what are a MUST ride at the resort. I hate being at a resort the first time and not knowing how to link up the mountain. Snowshoe we can kill but i want to be able to find everything and get in a good ride this weekend.

So does anyone have any suggestions/tips on how to link up the mountain? Let me know...And if anyone is riding there and wants to show us the ropes it would be killer. thanks.

_Bill

The Phantom drop is mandatory at the end of every run! Don't hit it too fast though.

Actually watch your speed on all the stuff there. I rode there after Whistler and at first I was hitting everything at Whistler speed which is way too hot for Diablo.

I wish I hadn't broken my bike! I wanted to head down there and ride with y'all.

Yeah snowshoe is the same way, you need next to no speed to drop almost anything there, infact speed can screw you on alot of the drops. So is the phantom drop the one that falls away from the deck like thing?

What is the biggest drop on the mtn? I am not a "HUCKER" but i like flowy drops that have good trannys, nothing is worse than a bad flat landing...What trails have the rock slides on them, they dont look like a picnic on my 5.5/5.5 bottlerocket.

Yeah the Phantom is right at the bottom by the lifts. The biggest drop is probably the Road to Nowhere.

Most of the rocks there are stationary, not a lot of Plattekill-style rock surfing there.

There are two new kickass wallrides this year on Alpine, if you're into that sort of thing.

Definitely get ahold of JRogers and see if he's gonna be there. He knows that place like the back of his hand, and he's fun to ride with.

They don't have the vert of Killington but their lift is super fast and you can get a ton of runs. There are lots of fun trails there, IMO Diablo has it all over Killington no question.

The one bummer is that they razed the natural rockdrop on the Jack :(

I don't think there's any drops over 8-10 feet. Lots of small stuff. Some good skinnys. Most of the jumps are tabletops, so even the huge ones can be enjoyed by a beginner (just make sure you're not getting in the way of the expert jumpers). Ya definitely gotta check it out.

Just don't send any noobs down BMW :dead:

Yosef. I'll be there either tommorrow (more likely) or Sunday. Say hi and we can do some runs together. I'll be on a black Mountain Cycle 9.5 with a silver Shiver, no stickers thr frame or fork. It's pretty easy to pick out.

Linking up the mountain is pretty easy because all the trails go to the same place. The best routes depend on what you like to ride. You can pretty much do every trail on the mountain in less than a day.

Just remember to try all the trails. There are some to the left, the right and straight out of the lift. The most popular run (and my default if I don't know what else to do) is the jump line- Upper Dominion-Lower Dominion-Breakout-Alpine-end. Hopefully, those trails will be open (damn rain...). Oh, and if it's raining a lot tommorrow or it's really wet, I'd recommend steering clear of BMW, Deceit, Slayer and Ripper unless you like very large, very wet rocks and you enjoy the distinct possibility of death.

LOL! BMW....some fond memories of that trail trying to kill me on my first visit to Diablo. ktmsx: Diablo is VERY rideable and a great place to learn. Yes, there are extremely difficult sections, but if you go with someone patient, you can get through them and have a blast!

VERY true! BMW, Slayer, Ripper, & Deceit are REALLY (I can't stress that enough) double-black diamonds!!!!

Evil Bob is another one that I only manage 1 run a day on because my arms get too damn tired!

another note. i really doubt you'll be able to do alpine and dominion this weekend. its is WET there.

BMW is a killer trail, Ripper in the wet is scary, that creek bed just gets huge. now Slayer, there's a scary trail

you want fast and scary, at the entrance to lower dominion, there's a trail just to the left of that log, before you hit the first big double. follow that, now thats a scary/fun trail

Yeah i had a great time at diablo this weekend, Got to link up with jrodgers for a run or 2 which was cool. I was pretty impressed with mountain, it had a totally different feel to it than i expected. I would love to go when it was dry...

BMW is a blast, i think i had it cleaned until the big rock face which was 7 kinds of nasty with water running down it.

I almost got killed on that wooden drop, to wooden landing on the skiiers right side of the mountain, went off it a little goofy and started to nose in a bit...I'm alive...

Yeah, nice meeting you too. Wish I could've taken a few more runs with ya, but had plans with other folks, you know.

Did you end up hitting the road to nowhere drop?

That big rock face on BMW is downright scary in the wet. Dry, it's not problem- just point, go and don't do anything dumb. Wet....it's one of those things if you mess it up, you will get seriously messed up.

ya no doubt, the road to nowhere drop was pretty much the only thing i backed down on and i was pissed, we had plans to ride sunday but got involved in some beer drinking in manhattan, foiled that plan. Ill be back though...
