Maxxis makes a 2.5 and 2.7 in a 24" Highroller. Kenda, Gazzo, Arrow.... There are a lot of good 24s now.

I like the Intense 909 2.5" FRO I have on my big hit right now. I hear good things about the 2.5 Kenda Nevegal too, i think I'll buy one of those for racing sometime soon. I like my high roller 2.7" and i think Maxxis makes a 24" high roller in 2.5" too. I just wish they made it in 40 or 42 durometer. The IRC kujo may come in a 2.3" if you want something really small. Overall I think your best bet is the high roller or nevegal. The 909 is OK, but fast wearing and is actually closer to 2.75" than 2.5". I haven't tried Arrows, so I can't comment on them, but i hear good things.

Jenson has the Highroller in a 24" on sale for $14 in a 50 D right now. Maxxis only made the 24" in a 50 D for a little while and Jenson has a lot left.

Arrow does make the 2.7x24 in a LT which is really light. The 2.7 is more like a 2.5.

Ive run almost every 24 out there....

Kanter- What do you think is the best 24" for mud? I'm racing ECCC until Oct. 23-25 (Northeast Collegiate Cycling), so I have a lot of races in very muddy conditions. I currently have a 909 FRO that is at about 65% tread, a brand new 2.7" High Roller 50D, and a 3.0 Kujo with like 75%. I don't really want to buy another intense, because they are ridiculously expensive, but the arrows and kendas look to be a good deal.

I'm pretty firmly decided that I will go with the 2.8" Michelin Comp 32 up front for mud, and a 2.7" Minion 40d for dry/rocky, but I don't know what to use in the rear.

i've used a maxxis highroller (2.7), nokian gazz (2.6), arrow primebite (2.75) & kenda nevegal (2.5). for the rooty, rocky often wet stuff (north shore) i ride, the nevegal has been my favorite. its sticks. its also large for a 2.5 - pretty simmilar size to the other tires. the maxxis is good, but not up there in the wet. the nokian is relatively sucky everywhere. the arrow was pretty good, but wore really fast & the profile was a bit too rounded than i like. go kenda!

I've been running the arrow launch 24" rear on my street machine going on a year. The thing is indestructable. It's lived through countless fufanus and cased stair bunny hops. I can't say enough good things about it and it is actually pretty good on singletrack too.

If you have a HR 50D use it for the rear. The HR is good in all conditions.

The Nevegal is sweet in wet condtions also. The Michy is a little wide for really muddy conditions.

I have noticed that a skinnier tire works better is muddy conditions.... 2.5 max

I have a Kenda Blue groove 2.5"x24" SR now & wears pretty fast.. Sticks great though..packs mud easy "red clay".

Also i have a Nokian Gazzi 24" x 2.6" & seems fine-but expensive & harder compound..I just don't know
I'll sell it for $35 shipped {90% tread left)
once you go sticky- it's hard to go back to hard compound...

I was lovin' my 909 FRO 24" x 2.5". Super thick sidewalls. Ran it with an XC tube and never flatted. However, it fell to pieces. It was feeling really squirmy in the corners and then I saw about 6 knobs torn off and the rest are torn 1/2 off.

My Arrow Prime Bite is sweet.

For wet stuff or just all around kenda nevegals rock i ran em all season on my bighit. Had 909s the 243 racings and nevegals on it and the nevegals were the best in all conditions. But high rollers just plain rule as i like my rear end to slide around some so they are nice too.
