Anybody have any suggestions of good cranks? I think Saints might be overkill for me, and I've heard of serious issues with the race face setup. Does FSA have anything to offer? Is anyone else coming out with any new designs? I'm not thrilled with Isis, and I don't know if XT would be enough...something in the middle perhaps?

are you lookin for freeride or dh cranks blackspire makes some raw dh cranks and truvative makes good fr and dh cranks all dependin on riding style and money.keep in mind that the blackspires dont come with rings though and there 5 hole go ride

thats where blackspires cranks are. and for truvative look on jenson.

One thing is for sure: If you go ISIS, the Middleburns are probably your best option. Pricy but worth it. They are to cranks what Thomson is to stems and seatposts. Otherwise, I'd just go XT...unless the newer version with the outboard bearing is less reliable than the older design. All I know is that the older design was very strong and reliable.

mostly FR/Trailbike. I like having a little extra beef so that I have the confidence to land drops. I think xt's (new style) would be ok for 90% of the riding I do...but I'm not completely convinced that they would hold up to plattekill ish drops. Am I wrong?

:thumb: yes sir! I love mine.

if I can save up a little, I would like to upgrade the cranks on my Trail bike to Middleburns.

I'm a big fan of FSA V-drives for the money. If I had lots of cash, I'd get Middleburns or find old XTRs, which I love.

My 2004 LX cranks are holding up quite nicely as well.

I think the FSA V-Drive Xtremes pretty much beat the hell out of anything else in terms of value. Shoddy finish (rubs off easily) and make sure you use the pedal washers (lots of people have stripped 'em because they didn't install the washers), but the price is right.

why don't you just hold out for the new Hone cranks that are coming out?
Are you serious? "Ah, man, can't ride for the next few months, man...waiting for those new cranks to come out. But it's gonna be totally worth it in the end. Sure, they're new and unproven, but I heard on the Internet that they're gonna be SWEET; so much better than anything else I could have been riding these past weeks. Totally worth the wait."

I love how people buy the cheapest DH crankset out there (Hussefelt) and then proceed complain that it's not as good as the expensive stuff :D

I'm leaning towards getting the race faces...they always make good stuff, and I don't tinker much...but would diabolus or the AM be better? Anybody with any experience on either?

I hear ya, I used them for a long time (guess I got lucky with the threads). I'm just messin' with ya anyway, if they say they're for DH they should be up to the task.

It's wierd though, I think the low end RaceFace stuff is about the same, but people don't expect as much from it. Methinks Truvativ made a classic blunder when they advertized the Hussefelts as the strongest thing out there.
