How is everybody today?

Didn't do to much, I barely have anytime when I get home to mow the lawn anymore it gets dark so early.
It was a nice cool crisp morning today. I love breaking out my sweaters and sweatshirts again.

Anybody got any big plans for the weekend?

Mornin Stosh.

Rode yesterday for the first time in 2 or 3 weeks. :thumb: Definitely felt good to get back out on the bike, even if it was only for an hour or so. After work I did some mowing, then met up with my best friend from high school who I haven't seen in 12 years. It was good to see her for sure.

Not much on for today... work, might check out a new sports bar with a buddy tonight.

For the weekend... not much going on tomorrow - some quality time with the kids. Might go apple picking with them if the weather is decent. Sunday I've got a couple of things in mind (ride, mow, visit my brother, housework), but nothing firm as yet.

Exciting, I know...

Some asshat set off the fire alarm this morning at 7:15 waking me, and the rest of the people in the building up. Lets just say no one was very pleased with him.

Sold my Heckler last night. Moving on and getting something bigger, hoping to score a Turner RFX or 5 Spot if possible. We will see.

Morning - hockey last night with the kids. We had a great practice, and then celebrated Connor's 8th Birthday (which is today) and passed out their home and away jerseys (made it a sort of ceremony). Good times! Damn coaching is a lot of work - but I LOVE It!

Stosh - how does Bruzer like the cooler morning temps? Do you take him for a morning walk every day?

Happy New Year to all you Jewish monkeys!

Got a busy weekend on tap. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze a ride in there somewhere, although it's not looking good. Got a hockey game tonight. Hopefully we won't get the snot kicked out of us again.

Actually he seems more lathargic in the mornings.
Typically I let him out our bedroom door to the back porch and he goes for a walk around the property himself.
He stays within a certain radius because he knows he'll be getting fed shortly.
I've been feeding him in his crate and he's actually taken quite well to it lately. When we're ready to leave in the morning instead of bolting for the front door with us he slowly walks over to his crate.

Happy New Year to the J-Crew!

Skipped out of work early yesterday and went on my first MTB ride in a very long time. Some time off the bike might have been good for me because I felt great and had tons of fun. I'm coming to the conclusion that having a good ride depends more on how much endorphins the brain can pump out than anything else. Mmmm free buzz.

It's supposed to rain all weekend. Does Rob know there is a chance he'll get muddy?

I'm sure he's really smart then!

Are you doing any clicker training with him?

No, or I should say not yet.
I'm strill trying to figure out what I want to work on with him. He's really smart and he's learning quick. He come, sits, stays, etc. I even have him sitting and watching me set his food bowl down and he won't move till I tell him it's ok.
The ONLY time I have a problem with him is when he's over stimulated by either people or other dogs. He LOVES to play with other dogs and he's really good with them. When the neighbor lets his dog out I lose control of Bruzer for a few seconds till he goes and investigates. I want him to STOP on command in thoes situations.

I really want to have someone come to our house and do some one on one training with him and Aubrey and I.

Morning. I went to the bmx track last night. I had a blast. Anyway enough about me. There was this little kid there, no taller than my knee cap, just ripping it up. At some point I noticed that one of his shoes was untied. So I says to the little guy "Hey your shoe's untied" and he looks at me and says "Oh, I don't know how to tie it, can you tie it for me?" Awesome! He can tear it up on the track but he can't tie his own shoes. Too cool!

Stosh, If you are having problems with the dog around other dogs, what makes you think that 1 on 1 training would do you any good? Sounds like you have good obedience in that situation already. I would highly recommend training in a group setting around lots of other dogs and distractions. Those are the situations where you are most like to need / demand obedience, why not train in that situation?

I guess my thought is I want make sure the dog knows ME before I put him in that situation. If that makes any sense.

Good morning,

The entire office is out at a retreat today and there's only like four of us here. It will be nice and quiet, I can crank obnoxious music on the iPod and put a dent in cleaning up my post-it notes.

I'm smilin' !

My son wants to get out on his bike tomorrow, Hawes Trail on Sunday. Guess we'll give the road bike a rest this weekend.

The Friday photos are looking good, people.

Have a nice weekend.

Stosh, that totally makes sense for you to think that. The first class or two should take care of that for you. You'll probably start off doing bonding exercises that clue your dog into you.

Here's generally what happens. In your first lesson. You'll probably be given a 15' long leash (DON'T USE A CHOKE OR TRAINING COLLAR!!!) then you'll walk in a triangle with 25-50 yard long sides. Don't say a word to the dog at all. Let the leash be completely loose. When you get to the vertex of the triangle stop for just a couple of seconds turn and keep walking you triangular route. The first couple of times the dog will keep on walking and pay you no mind. Of course, if you are walking the other way they are going to get a tug on the leash and have to run to catch up. You do this enough times (~30 minutes a day for a week) that dog is going to watch you like a hawk and never miss a turn. It will probably stay within an invisible circle of about 6 feet by the end of the week. As you progress through the week you can have either you or Aubrey stand outside your triangle doing something interesting, playing with a ball or what ever. Just keep doing the triangle as usual and hopefully the dog will learn to ignore the distractions, because he's going to find out that you are going to keep walking no matter what...

Anyway that's the first bonding exercise. I imagine most obedience classes will do something similar at the start of the class to build the relationship between you and the dog. After your dog is really clued into what you are doing you'll move on to to other stuff with ever increasing distractions, heeling around other people, dogs, rabid goats, etc.

Our dog already keeps a 10-20' radius around us when we walk in the woods.

he would stay closer if we requested it of him. I think it has something to do with his herding abilities.
I need to get him his rabies shot I think before anybody will work with us.

Dancin' over rocks n' roots!
Good morning! Busy day for me so far but I am heading home to pack up the car and head to the Rochester area for another wedding. Thankfully this is the last one for the year (I think) so then I can get back into some trail maintenance and riding.

Last night we went to the Olive garden with my brother & his wife (their choice) and our whole family to celebrate their 4th anniversary. Pretty remarkable as we weren't even sure they were actually going to make it to the aisle. Anyway, the food wasn't all that great...it's usually better than it was so I wasn't excited. The dessert was good though ;)

I did manage to tape My Name is Earl & The Office. I found Earl to be mediocre and the office was funny. I can't wait to watch CSI and I am sad to have missed Grey's Anatomy. Why do TV networks have to put all the shows I want to watch on 1 night

Also, I would like to wish all of our Jewish members a Happy New Year!!!!

We pay AUbrey mom to come and let him out during the day. :)

I'll try to remember the sticker this weekend.
