Will pouring a beer directly into the bottom of a tall glass, rather than down the side affect the taste of said beer? A buddy of mine swears it ruins the beer, but I just think it gives it a nice head, and getting some good head is the key to happiness.

Won't affect the taste of the beer, but pouring directly into the bottom usually gives you more foam than beer. Besides having a different "mouthfeel," the foam usually releases more aroma than the liquid. Both could contribute to your buddy's perception that it tastes different.

I like pouring half the beer hard to release flavors and drinking the other half out of the bottle. It's like getting two different beers in one!
