The English Beat, and later, General Public (altho not as much), and then Rankin' Roger (could never find any CDs of this band). The Specials and there was another called The Specials AKA In the Studio (they did the Free Nelson Mandela song). The Clash, but I think they fall more into Punk. Reel Big Fish is a more current one.
Basically, any of your 80's English skin head bands. And just to clarify, the English skin heads back then was a wholly different entity than the current US skin heads you've come to know today.

i liked ska in my high school days and had the requisite Specials records (even the two-tone _Dance Craze_ comp), but really drifted away from that real fast. new stuff (ie, in the last 2 decades) doesn't do anything for me.

operation ivy, i say rancid too just because i like them, check out <let's go>. much better than <out come the wolves>. i havent even listened to anything newer than that.
i found a compilation of old jamaican ska from the late 50's to the 60's put out my mango records ( a subsidiary of Island records) and it is fantastic. by far my favorite ska to listen to. not a lot of vocal. just good music to skank to. the skatilites were on that label. google it.

What about The Pietasters? They are definitely one of my favorites. Boston had a great ska scene when I lived there in the late 90s. Lots of good bands from around there.

Ahh...where shall I start?!?! :heart: I think my blood runs checkered b&w. I personally don't go a day w/o listening to some ska for at least a little while.
In sorta regional order...my 3rd wave favs...(yeah I'm pretty northeast biased).
-The Toasters - Need I say more?
-Slackers - Every release is solid, excellent live
-Pilfers - Coolie Ranx + Vinnie Noble = ska-core greatness!
-Metro Stylee - little known NYC band circa 97-99. Girl-fronted w/ great lyrics
-Step Lively - excellent local band that failed to get much notice outside the northeast b/c of the below band...
-Edna's Goldfish - love em or hate em they put LI ska back on the map.
-Spring Heeled Jack - CT Ska! Always tight, always amazing live.
-Johnny Too Bad & the Strikeouts - one great cd then done
-Skavoovie & the Epitones - jazz-flavored, were amazing live
-Allstonians - nice trad style Bawston ska
-Pietasters - DC ska. One of the best ever.
-Less Than Jake - Pezcore is a must own for anyone, not just ska fans.
-Checkered Cabs - Caz = great voice
-Skalars (ie Issac Green & the Skalars) - Jessica Butler = greatness
-Siren 6 - MN mod ska.
-Animal Chin - Two GREAT releases of hornless ska.
-Skoidats - MT skin-ska
-Dance Hall Crashers - dual female fronted vocals. Tight ska-punk.

I took the wife to see No Doubt last summer and the Living End opened for them. I had never heard them but watching the guy just jam on the upright bass was cool so I went out and bought a couple of CD's and I enjoy them.

Another band I was thinking of today is Kemuri. They are from Japan and they kick(ed?) serious ass! I saw them twice. Once w/ Mustard Plug and then once w/ LTJ and Edna's Goldfish (I think??...shows have all tended to blend into one massive show that lasted from 97-00).
PS...heard from Jay from DHC that a "Live" DVD is in the works from their Nov shows in Cali.
