I was wondering what some good cranks are for this sort of riding, I bent my profiles and have been on on-ones for a while, but I keep blowing out the bottom brackets, do you think holzfellers will hold up? or is the FSA outboard setup available yet... I can't afford Saint or Diabolus and don't really like either of those cranks either.

FSA has excellent value on their parts.. You can get the Pounders if you want to go to an ISIS setup, otherwise the X-drives have a setup similar to the Profiles.

That's if you want to go Cro-mo, of course, which it sounds like you should stick with if you're bending Profiles...

Profiles are pretty weak actually, i bent mine and my old roomate snapped his and bent 2 other sets... I wish I could afford some saints, hopefully there's some new outboard options coming soon.

btw, that shiver is really nice instigator, but the top caps are leaking now too :( that thing butters drops like no other though.

Wow, I have beat the piss out of my profiles and never bent them. I must be smoother than I thought. Honestly, if you have bent profiles, I would stay away from anything aluminum. The FSA pounders are probably one of the strongest cranks out there if you can find a strong enough bb to go under them. The FSA x-drive are suprisingly cheap. $145 at unreal cycles.

try out the azonic 454 cranks, they're pretty cheap and at least for me have been indestructable so far.
Keep an eye on your bearings, those notorious for eating bearings.

How, how the hell are you nuking Profiles? All I gotta say is wow!
I'd like to echo the stay away from Aluminum sentiment, if you kill Profiles, I wouldn't give Holzfellers a month for ya.

Saints might be a different story though.

How about MRP Bonz, those seem very beefy.

Your face.
Not meant as SPAM, but just a friendly notice to HOW, but one of the companies on Dropmachine will have a deal for DM members on Saint cranks, for $300 CAD!

Thats damn cheap dude, and might be a good option for you.

strange, i've had mine for at least 15 years now....... and they have seen the ropes.
same here...there can be many factors in bending cranks.... I think Profile make the strongest now days...maybe try the SS versions....D

nutorious for incorrect set up too....seriously they are not that different a system. if you side load the bearings they are going to fail prematurely. I would think set up is the largest factor there.

If he is bending the spindle or arms themselves I would say stay with the chromo BMX cranks.

I have a set of 454's and a set of FSA 3pc Chromo's. The azonic is noce because the pinch bolts help lock the system down. I ran the 454's on my Rotec for over 2 years w/o any inner bearing spacer. The propietary BB cups had the bearings on the outside of the cups so all I did was very slightly load the bearings and lock the arms down. All done. That would have been very difficult with FSA type cranks. I had two bearings go on me in that time. More from exposure than anything else.

The FSA's like the Profiles like most other MTB 3ps BB set ups have the bearing unside the cups and require a spacer pushing from the inside and similiar preasure coming from the outside.

I am going to try the Pounders and see if they work for a fatty like me. I would like to remove the 3pc BB all together. If they hold up I will still have strong crank arms. but a smooth BB with less hassle to set up. :D

Those were the first ones that came to mind when I read the thread topic. But when you factor in both the bent Profiles and the fact that he's blowing bearings, I'd avoid them...

forget 454s for the bearings... that sheet is driving me crazy. My friend bent his Profiles too after an 8ft to flat (I kno, I kno) but got a new arm from warranty (if an lbs can hook you up)

what about Diabolus cranks...

Dude, you should just just get three round pieces of solid steel rod and get them welded together in a crank/spindle shape and call it a day. Seriously though, can we see a pic of the bent Profiles?

Maybe you could try the FSA bmx cranks with a euro bb, they have huge bearings. Also my Saint cranks are so beef it's not funny. Maybe you could find a used pair.

MRP Bonz. Cheap, strong, effective, look cool. Let me know if I missed something.
Oh, and just because a crank is huge doesn't mean it's strong. I'm not saying that Saint's are weak, but size isn't necessarily an indicator if weaker alloys are used and lots of material is removed from the solid stock.

those are really good value for the money but then again if he is destroying profiles...

btw truvativ is also making outboard bearing cranksets

might be worth a look maybe they are coming out with something that suits you and cheaper than saint/diabolus

I have been riding a used pair of X-drives for a while now, I have beat on them pretty hard and they are still comming back for more. I would be interested to see how those pounders would preform though.

Profiles have a lifetime warranty on the arms and axle.
I warrantied my profiles after 2+ years of heavy use and have a brand new pair of arms now.
The only reason profiles are worth the money is for the warranty so use it.

It is not an abuse of WTY to have old and abused profiles replaced since they are marketed as indestructable.

If your buying new cranks go for FSA pounders.

Try the Profile DJs for thicker crank arms or the SS's for bigger arms & spindle. By the way, Profiles are lifetime warrantied so just call 'em up.
