And an early apology for no pics at the moment. Hoping to borrow a friend's digi cam tomorrow actually.

Fork (150mm 66RC) weighed 7.25# uncut, and 7.0# after I lopped off about 3" of steerer. Yeah, only 3" of beefy steel steerer weighs 1/4#, and that's the thin part of the steerer. The bottom 4" or so has a super thick steel plug in an already thick steel steerer. I'm not too concerned with failure, although a higher-tech alloy steerer with internal walls or cross-bracing would be an awesome weight-saver (the full steerer apparently weighs ~1.2# ). But hey, I'm no engineer - and I already paid as much as I'd like to for it as-is.

The visual impression...WOW. Just WOW. It looks very much like a Z1 when by itself, pretty proportionate to one anyways. But when you get close and then get it mounted it's crazy. I wish I still had my Z1, just for some side-by-side shots. It's crazy how big this thing is. I can stick my fat fingers between my 2.35 tire and the arch. I can run whatever tires I want to. The width is impressive too, and the crown is just a monster. So deep and with so much stantion insert. Again, WOW.

Angles look good for FR, considering the 22.5" a-c height. Glad the RFX is was designed around big forks. Will attempt to get an accurate measurement later. May buy a cheap angle finder just cuz I'm a numbers freak like that.

BB height (~'01 RFX, 6" plates, 2.35 Nevegal tires ft/rr) comes to 14.75". Others have reported that height with much shorter forks (6" Shermans, Z150's etc.), so I must have gotten a *short* bike eh? Works for me! It'll go a little higher yet when I go to the 2.5-2.6 tires soon. But being well under 15" is a big victory for me. Isn't an Id with a 5" XC fork like 15"? Suckas, LOL.

Ride impression later. It's dark and cold here, with muddy trails. I might attempt a short urban ride just to get a feel for the fork. Just rolling around, with no air assist and compression backed off all the way I still can't get into the last inch of travel. I've always been able to bottom out my Marzocchi's stock in the past. I weigh about 230 right now, prolly 235 loaded up, maybe 240 with winter clothes piled on. I'm pleasantly pleased to say the least.

Pics soon. Might wait until my shock comes back from PUSH with the '05 updates and after I get my Hone crankset and old chainguide installed and the new tire set - basically the finished Bulldog-v3.0 build kit. So it could be a few days or a few weeks, sorry to tease, sorta. :D

I hate your thread without pics Bulldog. :blah:

Let's see the 66RC next to a RS Indy SL!

I wonder if a fluted or ovalized steerer would work and save weight?

Hmmm, I think we have an old (new) Manitou Mars still hanging on the wall. Will that work? :)

And yeah, if these big 1.125 SC forks really take off I can see the need/value in high-tech steerers. I'm thinking about contacting Thomson to see if they can make one for me! j/k.

Still no pics?

I've replaced my RFX with another RFX and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Fox 36s. I have at least one of the same upgrades planned as well (Hone cranks).

Let's see that black beast.

No pics, never met up with the friend. It was a pretty poor day for shooting anyways. I'll see what I can do though...

Drop dead sexy. Looks like a perfect fork for your bike too. Didn't really rake it too much. Pretty wide space between the legs ! Which is perfect.

You know i really wish it could be lowered 20-30mm. That 575-595 is insane. Why don't they make it possible to run it in a 5" mode ? I realize most people want the extra suspension... But, that is pretty tall. And anyway 5" done right is plenty.

Is that the Kenda Nevegal and if so what size?
Though it looks so undersized in this fork, that is indeed a Nev, 2.35. My frame has almost that much clearance too, so I'm going to get some 2.5's instead.

You sound like the perfect match for an '04 Z.1

Wow man, that is stealthy.
Any ride impressions yet?
Just one small hucky session and about an hour on the trails bombing around. This is THE fork for the RFX imo. A 150mm Z.1 is great if you want to ride real XC on a porky-yet-efficient bike. The 150mm 66 is the fork for true bombing around with little emphasis on how or how fast you get to the top. It's supposed to be a SC DH fork, and as of now I won't disagree.

As for true impression and nit-picking - it's way to early yet. Gonna take awhile to break in and get it fine-tuned. But out of the box my sag is perfect and travel use is where is should be given the size of the hits it has taken. No fork has ever felt dialed in for me out of the box like this. At 230 it's weird. I imagine that little guys might as well take 1 spring out immediately or the thing won't move.

Long live the burly 6x6 bike!!!!

Looks nice tony, your bike is as stealth as my new one will be

And yes, long live the 6x6, I bet that thats just how the last phase of my RFX was before I sold it, the thing rode great with that super T. Some day I will once again have a turner, and that day will be this summer when I get an XCE for a 4x bike :D I think its cool you still refer to me to others as the RFX info guy :thumb:

Did you get a PM from somebody asking about the 7" plates? Is that what you're referring to? You're the only guy I know that actually ran them, so you're the expert in my book! lol :)

yep thats what its about. If anyone ever asks about GI or the 7in plates just post this: Goetz Industries is still in business but has dropped the consumer sector and only does Manufacturer OEM and Military machining work now.

That shock is just holding space until Darren gets my Pushed RC updated with '05 internals. Should be back next week. Why buy a bigger and heavier shock when these little guys (after seeing Darren) can outperform them?! ;)
