2nd run: 5:53.469

That was a pretty sloppy run in the Toyota GT-ONE Race Car '99

I can take a bunch off that time though.

(I'm just excited to faster than Toshi at the moment !!!!!111)

Hey guys. I only discovered this thread last week , bit of a GT fan and always up for a challenge , so i tried the Seattle / Chev one. Couldn't break 1:30.

I just had a go at this Nurb challenge in a BMW V12 LMR race car '99 , 1004hp. I did a 5:33.776 and was a couple of seconds up on that in the following lap , but decided to mow the lawn around the back of the course instead ! Breaking 5:30 is definately doable in this car. Used NOS on the long straight only for maybe 10 seconds , R5 tires , soft suspension settings. Lots of room for improvement. I'll post up full car settings if anyones interested.

Cheers

i've never used NOS before, except on my real car :D . heh. i'll give that a try, along with softening up the suspension. please do post up your settings, spinner. LM cars are scary over 200 mph on the bumpy 'ring surface.

mmm... competition :)

Hmm I've got NOS in my GTR-ONE but didn't use it. I'll give it a go. It should give me another 25 mph or so on the big straight. Time to start playing with the suspension. I've got it up over 1000 hp so it should be able to compete with any of the cars you guys are using.

just logged a 5'26.443". splits: 0'33.141", 0'58.310", 1'20.953", 2'00.650", 2'29.760", [missing one here?], 3'25.926", 4'01.247", 4'18.339", 4'51.959" on the back straight, 5'08.113", fini.

sauber C9, NOS at max power/minimum duration right after hitting 5th gear on the long straight, and with one small off into the grass on the back half. driving aids at 1/1/3 -- the car was soooo twitchy with 0/0/3.

Hmmm... I may need to switch cars.

I'm down at 5:46.xxx and honestly could probobly take another 10 seconds off with a great run (which is frustratingly hard to achieve) but I don't know about getting it in to the 20's with that car.

Where/when do you get the Sauber Toshi? Looks like the car I'll need to get, though I think I'll try out a couple others too. Man I love the Toyota though; hooks up so well when handled right.

the sauber is one of the tougher cars to get. i'm not sure if it's the fastest of the group C / le mans cars but it's up there.

to get it you have to win the Formula GT World Championship in the Extreme Hall. that was one of the most difficult series to win, since you actually have to drive most of it (at least to qualify on the pole) instead of b-speccing it all without a thought -- all of the cars in the series are formula cars. oh yeah, so to enter and even have a chance at being competitive you need a formula car. :)

are you anywhere near days 694-700 (modulo 700, as in 1394 == 694) in game time? if you are then look above at the hint i posted about the nissan R92CP -- you can buy a bunch of sweet cars, all black, in the used car lots on those days.

you could also try the minolta-toyota 88C-V. it should be easy to get, assuming you can have B-spec Bob win the El Capitan 200 miler for you on 3x speed :D .

http://faqs.ign.com/articles/599/599814p1.html has how to get the fast cars.

damn you!! I just spent about 1.5 hrs and the best I could get was 5.27.003:twitch:...maybe I'll give my Minolta a try it has a slighter better pwr/weight ratio...D

Heres the settings on the BMW V12 LMR for the 5:33 I did yesterday:

Tires: R5
NOS: 30 but I'll be changing that to 50 for future runs
STG 4 Turbo
Brake balance 3 - 3

Suspension: Spring rate: F 9.6 R 7.7
Ride height 80 - 80
Damper comp: F6 R7
Damper rebound: F7 R8
Camber: F 3.0 R 2.0
Toe: 0 - 0
Stabiliser 6 - 6

Transmission: Auto setting 17 (manual shifting of course)
Driving aids: 5 - 5 - 3
Downforce: F 57 R 80
LSD: 10 - 40 - 20

Everything else default setting.

I'll stretch out 6th gear a little and see if I can match your time Toshi , gonna be tough though ! 5:26 ! man I'm gonna have to spend some time to get near that !

on youtube of someone getting the Toyota Minolta around there in under 5 mins. He was using a steering wheel and pedals and left foot braking in the turns , I think that was the key.

EDIT: made a few changes + oil change brings the power up to 1055 hp.......5:22.904 with 2 bars of NOS left in the tank. Fairly clean lap , aiming for 5: 20 now. :)

Ridemonkey GT4 Challenge #4

as for the next challenge, does everyone have the formula car? win the nurburgring 24 hours and you'll get it. you can b-spec it with an appropriate car, i imagine? i don't quite remember, and don't remember which car i used either. here is a nice writeup on it: http://www.hansenonline.net/GT4/endurance-races-2.html

All right GT freaks...

Do I do the cheap thing and find used PS2 and GT4...or the expensive thing and a 360 and Forza 2? GT4 has more cars/tracks and more realistic, but no damage modeling, crap graphics compared to Forza, and not as much car tunability (from what I hear). Plus, CM's Dirt comes out for 360 soon...

do the cheap thing. then buy a ps3 and GT5 when it comes out.

you don't have "tunability" in that you can't do horribly unrealistic drivetrain swaps in GT4 or paint your car in hideous colors, but you can do pretty much everything else.

The lack of damage modeling may be a deal breaker for me (though I suppose that all depends on how good Forza's damage is), and CM's Dirt looks awesome, especially if it's anything like the rally series.

I really hate hitting walls and not blowing up.

unrestricted == you can do whatever you want with tires, etc.

blue, there's no damage modeling, sure, but you still lose a bunch of speed and control by hitting the wall. you won't win this contest hitting the wall… :D

So after my first session, about an hour, my best time is 1:18.170. (That's with two gin & tonics and a Mint Julip in me).

I'm driving the Mobil One NSX with the default suspension settings. I've brought the tranny a little closer so I'm 'almost' redlining 6th gear at my fastest.

This is by far my favorite challange. The car STICKS to the road and I know I can pull out a faster time (not by too much) by hitting all the corners perfect. The car is great for this track.

Question: are the NSX's the same power? Will one have an advantage over another? Is anyone changing the suspension set up?

vtjim , I'm using the Mobil NSX also. I have softened the spring rate and tweaked the damping a little to stop the car skipping around so much.

An oil change gave me about +20 hp , so worth doing even if not required. My car only has 100 miles on it too.

Thanks, I forgot about the oil change. I'll mess around with the suspension a bit then too; you're obviously getting good results.

Dude, you don't need an oil change. My GTI went for 30k miles without one, and it ran like a top!

Well, maybe not, but still...

no cutting that turn for me -- upsets the car anyway and is unreliable besides being an unsatisfying way to end a lap. it's hard to not turn in too early when excited there. disclaimer: i did get two wheels on the grass there looking at the replay, but two were firmly on the curb.

:busted:

takata dome nsx, bought new with a fresh oil change. good run. soft suspension: something like 10/12, 5/6 compression/rebound, -3.5/-3.7 camber, full downforce (make sure to turn this up! doesn't come this way), 1/0/0 driving aids, sticky tires, gearbox at 8? or 10, whatever leads to revving out in 6th.

splits: 0'14.654", 0'32.418", 0'57.461"

1'15.114"

woohoo! that's a lot of crashing in the first few turns to get a run where the car is set up nicely for the good first split. there also was a license test or two on this course that helped. i remember one with a skyline GT-R on street tires into the tunnel and through that first blind right turn after it in particular.

good suggestion on this challenge, Matchew. the JGTC cars are just the right speed for this course.

Aint that the truth ! It was make or break in that first section , get it right and the pressure was on for the rest of the lap......."this could be the one".......

Impressive time Toshi , well done.:clapping:

In the 45 minutes that were available for me to play this week i managed to pull a PB of 1:16.698. Once school is done next week I'll have more time to commit to this and be way more competitive.

Fun challenge for sure, an F1 challenge would be really cool as long it is on a track that accommodates the speed and handling of the car.
