one of the local radio stations played a 5 song set last night of the cd. sadly i only caught the last song. think it's name was like "calling back september"??? something along those lines. but it sounded great and i like "american idiot "
i listened to the album on mtv.com (that had it streaming for a few days). it's the first Green Day cd i've considered buying since Dookie. i really, really like American Idiot. a couple other songs were pretty rad, as well, i just can't remember the names.
Are you the guy who was recommending Probot? I picked it up before the last roadtrip to a DH race. What a great album. It really brings back memories of bands I listened to in high school (CoC, DRI, Voivod, Napalm Death, Motorhead, Celtic Frost).
Man... I remember when GD was a really original band. Now every baby, kiddy, rock/punk band on earth stole their sound and they are swimming in a sea of lookalike fish. Still, I've not heard it so maybe its good
that song about how America sucks and all is kinda lame. I just see all the punk skaters sitting around saying "man Green Day knows where it's at F' America" then they go out and buy another pair of Etnies because they were advertised on the Gravity Games......
Yeah - I think the descendents are just blaming us all. I don't know what the GD song is. Part of me reads and listens to merican and says they hate America. Part of me reads it and it says "phuck anti-Americans, they can leave". Your take??? Not to hijack, I will try to get me some new GD.
merican lyrics
we flipped our finger to the king of england
stole our country from the indians
with god at our side and guns in our hands
we took it for our own
a nation dedicated to liberty
justice and equality
does it look that way to you
it doesn't look that way to me
the sickest joke i know
[chorus]
listen up man, i'll tell you who i am
just another stupid american
you don't wanna listen
you don't wanna understand
so finish up your drink and go home
i come from the land of ben franklin
twain and poe and walt whitman
otis redding, ellington
the country that i love
but it's a land of the slaves and the ku klux klan
the haymarket riot and the great depression
joe mccarthy vietnam
the sickest joke i know
[chorus]
i'm proud and ashamed
every fourth of july
you got to know the truth
before you say that you got pride
[chorus]
not the cops got tanks 'cause the kids got guns
shrinks pushin' pills on everyone
cancer from the ocean
cancer from the sun
straight to hell we go
GD hasn't done much for me since Dookie - got the new Chevelle CD last night though - it's pretty sweet so far, usually takes a couple of days to decide how I feel about an entire CD though
