Thought I would put this up on the DH board, well.... since we are the most open to hacking stuff apart. Looking to hack off the post mounts from a steel hardtail. Has disc mounts, never going to use V's or cantis. Doing it for mostly a looks thing. My plan is to get it close with a saw, then grind it down, hit it up with some primer than put some stickers over it. I can't see it weakening(sp?) the frame much if it all. Besides naysayers saying don't do it, any reason why I shouldn't. Any tips to do a better job. Ill post pics before, during and finished when I get it done.

works fine. We've done 2 or 3 frames, and a few forks. Just take your time when you do, so you don't get the metal really hot.

I've done it to a couple of frames. I prefere to cut the bulk off with a hacksaw then use a hand file on the rest. I don't really trust myself with a grinder.
If you can match the paint on the frame you should be able to make it nice enough so you don't need to cover it with stickers.

I say if the studs are removed leave the mounts, it will make the frame easier to sell in the future.
Depending on the mount, this is a great idea... as you can always drill and tap it if it's a fairly chunky mount.

that's why we drink it here
I was able to get a very clean finish with a dremel when moving the brakes from the chainstays to the seatstays on my BMX. Just be really conservative, use a hand file for those last few burrs. Otherwise, have at it, hoss!
