So I was trying to be a responsible bike owner and clean my V-Brake pivots, so they would spring back with a little more pep.

Apparently the genius at the factory put too much thread lock on the brake bosses and when I tried to loosen the bolt it spun the whole assembly, bending that little pin thingy and breaking out of the fork.

Now I can't get the brake off. So, I'm thinking about getting a Psylo XC. And a new brake. Anyone suggest any other fork for $200?

hmmm... before getting a whole new fork, try a little epoxy and some thin wire mesh to put the little hole back together... then you just need a new brake post and new brakes.

to repair: clean the dirt off and sand all the way around the post on the fork where the brake post goes in. Then sand the paint off. clean again. Now put some epoxy in the hole and replace the broken part. Then paint the surface of he part you sanded with epoxy, get a super fine wire mesh, or some fiberglass mesh and wrap tightly around the whole post (to reinforce the broken part). paint over the surface with epoxy so it will dry smooth. When done, paint over to match paint on fork.

This should hold it once the brake is on, but be SUPER careful when replacing the brake. you might want to hold it with pliers so you don't put pressure on the mended part wih the pin.

You're trying to steal my excuse to buy a new fork aren't you! :) Hmm I'll think about that...

Is the brake post threaded? I assumed it was non-replacable.

Right now it's ridable, it just doesn't sping back so it rubs on one side. I'm a little worried about the boss coming out under heavy braking since I broke it loose.

$200 doesn't go very far in fork land, unless you buy used.
I've noticed :) But Pricepoint has Psylo XC for $199. Or $189 if you want silver. Looks to be a good deal.

They have a Z3 for $199. I would rather have the Z3 personally.

That's surreptitius part of my post. :)
I've only been riding for a year and I'm not sure what to get. I ride primarily XC but like to at least try to throw it down on the steeps ocassionally. I have a hardtail Raleigh M80. No *big* drops. I'd like a fork that will be good enough to last until I get up the cash for a FS frame. I'll lookup some reviews of the Z3.

First try your local bike shop and see if they have any "take offs" forks from other bikes where the cust wanted another fork spec'd or upgraded. Also look at the shop bulletin board. If that fail's, start hooking some of the catalog stores (Supergo, Cambria, etc) or look in a bike mag for last years closeouts. Contrary to what others say (mostly the tech-weenies) you can find a good deal on the latest rage fork from last year- brand new- and often with a manufactures warranty. Also, depending on the age of your broken fork, the manufacturer may warranty it, or at least sell you the lowers to fix it. Good Luck- and beware the guy who says you can't get a good forkin' deal for under 200 bones.

Woo hoo! I took it to the LBS today and they said it's covered under warranty. I'd like to upgrade my fork but don't have the money to spend right now anyway. So I'm happy. :)

I did convince myself I could buy some new brakes when I saw some Avid Ti's with Mag levers for $85 on pricepoint.com. Yea the mag levers may break, but that's pretty cheap and hopefully I can get a replacement from Avid if they do. I
