do you do any lift service bike park days on it?
As Jackalope said, I have a real man bike for real man riding :rockout:
As much as I have loved my GG trail bikes, this thing embarrasses all of them for real DH. Not saying you can't ride a MT in the park, you definitely can but when we were all at Whistler @jackalope and I on big bikes made our buddies on a Smash and a Spartan pretty sad.

While I'm at it, @mtg Make us another DH bike. :D

my local bike park definitely isn't as gnarly as whistler. basically i'm just trying to determine if it'd be capable enough for the occasional day i manage to go, with a few minor tweaks.

maybe by the time i've reached a point i can DH regularly again, GG will have another DH bike out.

I rode my Scout with 125mm of rear travel at Bromont last year. Your GG can do it, just send it.

I mean yeah, I did end up crashing on green trail but whatever. :busted:

If you're not smashing rocks at pace constantly, I think it would be great. And to Ed's point, probably the most dangerous riding I do is in Pisgah--fast, rough, not professionally marked/maintained and far from help if you go down. The MT has mitigated many, many bad decisions out there. I think tough wheels, DH rubber at least in the rear and 8 inch rotors and you could get some real work done pretty much anywhere.

My preference for a DH bike is as much about not wrecking a trail bike on DH trails and for more margin for error as it is about capability of the respective bikes. I'm mostly just being a hardliner about DH bike superiority because they are the greatest most fun bikes and I'm sad that they are less and less relevant (even if I understand why). That and to give Matt a hard time.

i have a set of 823's i'd lace up, would use DH tires, and would consider adding cush core. i did race DH once upon a time so i still like to get kinda smashy

^^ Yep, that's what all us Colorado resort riders/racers do. The enduro races are on all the old DH race tracks. Now we are going just as fast on a smaller bike and less protection

@mtg, whats the BB drop on on the Megatrail? The BB height measurement doesn't let us know what tyres are on it which seems to make a pretty significant difference.

I'm starting to seriously consider a Megatrail as an alternative to my Nomad3. I was all jazzed on a Nomad4, but my deal fell through.

I've not read any head to head comparisons on a Megatrail vs. an N4.

I was pretty excited at the idea of the N4 because it is rumoured to climb better than my N3, and descend better too. Could the same be said of the new Megatrail? If so, I might be plunkin down some dough (size 2).

What sez teh monkeh?

tough call...gotta say, i do love my n4. but if the new gg was available when i got it it would have been a really hard decision.
The only reason I'm waffling is the climbing ability. I tend to just adapt to whatever bike I'm riding. I thought I'd never ride a bike better than my SB66, then I got my N3. Apparently the N3 cannot climb without an enduro donkey, but I seemed to manage just fine around here. I'd love a bike that descended just as well but climbed even better.

Reading all the climbing benefit of the geo of the N4, I'm curious how the Megtrail compares.

I'm sure I can tweak the fork and flip chips and shiz to get the "downs" dialed.

I’m in same boat, but with megatrail vs smash. Love my n3 but my friend says the n4 is more better and eliminates the n3 shortcomings.

Never ridden a GG. Curious if SC is going to release lower travel nomad-link 29. Running what I’ve got for now.

SC did release a 29 Nomad--it's called the Megatower. Check it out.

I've got an alloy Megatrail and I cannot say enough good things about it. With a Ribbon coil and 11-6, it is a ridiculously capable descender but is still really fun on flatter/rolling trails, jumps super well, climbs great in terms of not bobbing too much and having a very comfortable pedalling position. Mine is pretty heavy, prob 33 pounds. I'm sure a 29 pound carbonfest would climb better.

I’m aware of MT, am curious if they’re releasing a shorter travel version along lines of Bronson.

Smash is still top choice with 11/6 set up like yours.

I've demoed a Mega Trail, have ridden my buddies N4 and own a Bronson V3 - larges on the SC bikes and medium in the MT. The geometry felt pretty different between the GG and SC bikes. Compared to a current gen SC the MT felt like it had a shorter back end and longer/taller front end. Depending on what you like that could be exactly what you're looking for.

edited - forgot the MT was a medium, which seemed essentially equivalent to most larges

The cool thing with the GG Megatrail is you can aquire the frame, build it with your Nomad parts or 275 build-kit, then keep an eye out for a 29er fork/wheelset cheap and modify the bike to the Smash with just the seatstay kit later down the track.
