I have no idea where I am
Late last night I got bit by a feral cat. It was dark, and I couldn't see the area around my feet. I heard a hiss followed by stinging in my calf. At first I thought the skin hadn't been broken, but after wiping it off with alcohol, 6 small puncture wounds started to bleed a bit. Fvck !

So today I got to go to the ER as directed by my Dr. Because the cat could not be identified or verified for vaccination, the ER Dr, ordered the whole round of shots since rabies is 100% fatal. I kind of felt like putting off the whole death thing for at least another 45 years, so needles it was.

Let me be clear, I FVCKING HATE NEEDLES !!!!

After the nurses gave me a horse pill to swallow we were of to the races. First shot was for tetanus in my right arm. Then the Dr. injected my calf 4 times and shot the med under the skin causing it to swell a bit, making my calf look all ripped and steroided out. Then the nurses took turns sticking me. Got 1 shot in the thigh, and 1 in the left shoulder.

Not done yet. One of the nurses informed me that the next 2 shots had to be in my butt. After dropping my shorts, I assured both of them, that if I had known, I would have worn nicer underwear. Both of them stuck me simultaneously in each cheek.

Shot total so far: 9

And still not done. I have to go back on Friday for another shot. After that, there are 2-3 more shots span out over the next few weeks.

Awesome

I was planning on going riding some where a wee bit away on Friday since it's my birthday, but get to go back to the hospital instead. Looks like it'll be a local ride.

At least I got to show my ass to a couple of cute nurses.

I think the rabies shots used to be given in the stomach, so I guess there's that to be thankful for...

Feral cats are a big problem especially since people think they are somehow safer and deserving special treatment compared to other wild animals or dogs. Around here three times as many people get rabies from cats than dogs. Managed feral cat colonies make about as much sense as managing packs of wild dogs or feeding other damaging invasive pest species.

A co-worker's son I know got bit in the finger by a feral cat and he nearly lost his finger from infection (not rabies though).

When three Wilkes-Barre residents were bitten by a rabid cat earlier this month, the occurrence seemed a bit odd.

Usually, rabies cases are associated with raccoons, bats and skunks. But according to Pennsylvania Game Commission figures, cats account for the fourth-highest number of rabies cases in the state — behind raccoons, bats and skunks.

“Cats are pretty prone to it,” said Bill Williams, the PGC’s information and education supervisor for the Northeast Region. “If they’re allowed to roam lose, there’s a higher probability that they’ll contract it. The risk is also raised when people feed stray cats, because that attracts skunks and raccoons as well, and congregates them all so contact is common.”

Riding the baggage carousel.
Not 100% fatal. But yea, I'd still go the the shot option.

I used to get a twice daily blood thinner shot to the stomach. Most places on the human body are much better suited to have someone stick a needle. :twitch:

Hope you stay healthy.

A friend of mine was bitten by a raccoon once and was accidentally double dosed on the rabies vaccine. This was back when it was delivered suspended in mercury. The next 6-7 years he suffered from mercury poisoning. Stunted his development (bite happened when he was a teenager) and made him lethargic for years!

Sorry, I haven't checked in all day, but I've been completely consumed with this ball of yarn. It's the most awesome thing ever.
You got your act wrong, you are supposed to be feeding and collecting cats now (well if you got toxo too)...

Might Toxo explain why some humans develop an unhealthful attraction to cats and apparently become immune to the smell of their urine? And might that explain the mystery of crazy cat ladies? “That idea doesn’t seem completely crazy,” Sapolsky says.

These oocysts are easily transmitted to humans, and researchers have explored their possible link to various mental health problems, including schizophrenia. More recently, studies of school-age children show a correlation between testing positive for T. gondii and having difficulty in school.

The parasites can cause more acute health problems in newborns and people with weak immune systems, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention points out.
Toxo also makes some otters and mantees slowly drown to death as their brain goes. Thanks kitties (note that indoor cats do not typically carry toxo).

Related flyer from the US cat vet association. Letting cats outside is stupid according to them:

Full Position Statement on Confinement of Owned Indoor Cats

Veterinarians are encouraged to educate clients and the public concerning the dangers associated with allowing cat’s free-roam access to the outdoors.

Free-roaming cats may be exposed to injury, suffering, and death from:

Vehicles
Attacks from other animals
Human cruelty
Poisons
Traps
Additionally, these cats have an increased potential to be exposed to feline-specific and zoonotic diseases.

Lastly, adherence to this policy also reduces predation of native wildlife populations, a goal and policy of the AVMA and the AAFP.

I almost drown when I was about 6-7 years old. Craziest/scariest/most surreal experience I've ever had. Crazy how vividly I remember looking up into the water at the sun and seeing my dad dive in and grab me.....I can still recall what his bathing suit looked like, 20+ years later.

This probably explains why a crazy lady in our church can't smell what is labeled as "The Cat Room" . She begged people to feed her animals while she was out of town for a family emergency so we all took a turn helping feed.

Very organized feeding schedule, but that den of Hell was so rancid you couldn't actually walk NEAR it without gagging, let alone open the door.

All I wanna do is lay around and sleep.

I get another shot tomorrow. Needles for my birthday. Why can't MMike be the one to get stuck with needles on his birthday ?

Hope I feel like riding a little tomorrow.

We transport the "Stinky Cat lady" She reeks of Cat pee and spray, human BO, and cheap cigarettes. Our eyes water and nostrils burn when she is on board. The AC is on max, the exhaust fan is on max and the front windows are open even if its raining. Inside her house its worse, ashtrays with hundreds of butts and ash plus 16-20 semi feral cats running lose not to mention the overflowing litter boxes. We expect to come there one day to find her dead and half eaten by the cats
