By the way, here's my common sense solution to gun reform. Take 10 words out of the current federal gun laws:

18 U.S.C. § 922 said:
(d) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise
dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or
having reasonable cause to believe that such person
-
(1) is under indictment for, or has been convicted in any court
of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one
year;
(2) is a fugitive from justice;
(3) is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled
substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances
Put the onus on the seller to ensure that the person that he/she is selling the gun to can legally own it. Period. Just like states make bars criminally liable for underage drinkers, hold the seller accountable if he or she sells a firearm to someone who can't own one. Keep background checks voluntary for private sales, but if you sell a weapon to someone who can't own one, you're fvcked. Period.

Might incentivize people to start running background checks on prospective buyers before they sell guns to complete strangers on the street, don't you think?

you left out the obvious.

the black ones never mattered to well meaning elected officials.
Not true, it will be very difficult to implement 'entitlement reform' unless we cull the welfare rosters.

Oh fvck it !

Let's just start installing NRA sponsored vending machines in all public schools. They can sell small, easily concealable hand guns, ammo, and accessories. Plop that right between the corn syrup dispensers. That way no child is left behind.

I mean really, don't we have a shortage of young, poorly educated, obese, heavily armed Real Americans™ ?

I found a funny video on the internet of a local legislator who didn't know how magazines work. Therefore anything that regulates firearm acquisition and distribution is invalid.

yeah

That's where we are.

So the NRA's financial backers get to supply the criminal *and* the victim? Cha-ching!
Why not ? Credit card companies do it. In addition to the interest rate charged to the customer, they also charge the merchant a percentage of the sale along with other bogus, yet unavoidable, and unexplainable fees. And they deduct it directly form the merchants checking account. Nothing like making money for someone and being charged for it. (Well, except prostitution or owning a small business.)

Gotta love that free market economy.

And right after the NRA machines get installed, we can just cross out that silly First Amendment and have mandatory Christian Prayer Time so the students can have a chance to beg God to not get shot.

I can see it now, Old Fart to young punk, "Back when I was your age we got punched in the face, not shot. Damn kids don't even know how to make a proper fist."

Front Range, dude...
From an FB exchange with a fromer friend of mine and his less then smart buddies...I cant do the copy/paste/redact name thing, so I will cut and paste for your edification...I did the editing, so I removed some less than germaine or appropriate comments.

(Status update...)
Dummy #1- President Obama showed more anger about not getting the bill passed than he did over the bombing. Just a thought.

JohnE- Bombing killed 3 so far...how many are killed by guns yearly?

Dummy 1a- Wow what an idiotic comment. John you on the bandwagon to ban spoons cause they make people fat.

Why is the murder rate higher in areas banning guns around the world???

Dummy 1- Cause the government & bad guys are the ones with guns.

Dummy 2- @ John. Lets ban pressure cookers!

Dummy 1- Maybe if the terrorists acted "stupidly" him would've been more upset.

JohnE- Not the point guys...we lose more people per year to gun violence then we do random acts of terror such as this. The Congress seemed set to pass a gun control measure that had many satisified as being sensible and executable. Yet last minute lobbying by special interest groups prevented that. Keeping guns out of the wrong hands is the goal...while keeping them in the right hands.

Dummy 2- Since "him" cannot be trusted and he has told us exactly what he intends to do, "he" was be fought every inch of the way. We cannot allow any of our Freedoms to be eroded at any costs. Hold the line.

JohnE- Where do you draw the line regarding "our freedoms" vs the freedoms of others?

Dummy 2 "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." ----- Benjamin Franklin

JohnE- The freedoms of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Many gun owners (And I am one mind you...) delude themselves into thinking they are the line against tyranny and government corruption. We are not. If the government truly wanted our guns, there is honestly not much that could be done about it. We have sucked up too much NRA hyperbole and hubris. Let us not forget that until relatively recently Mr LaPierre and the NRA supported background checks. I wish they would return to the NRA I grew up with, teaching safe, reponsible shooting and competent marksmanship, and shepherding/mentoring the next generation of shooters...when they got into politics I got out.

JohnE- ...ask yourself honestly, do I NEED a gun, or do I WANT a gun? I have owned guns all my life, and used them in my career almost daily...yet I feel little honest need for them anymore. Want, sure. I love shooting sports. Need? I just dont know anymore. Flame away folks...

Dummy 1- JohnE Your agreement is flawed. More ppl want their right to have guns not the few. There is something you can legally do, fight for your rights! They are slowly trying to take our rights. There have been gun shootings in urban hoods for years, NOW all of a sudden guns are bad!?! Ca mon son! Ask yourself honestly why is that? I WANT & NEED a gun. But I will never force my WANTS & NEEDS over someone that doesn't. If you don’t feel a need to own them any more give them to me, if you have the balls. I’ll give them a happy safe and secure place to reside. Since you are so sure you’ll feel safe without them.

Dummy 2- I can't believe any LEO could talk about gun control. I recently was told something similar by a new officer and I asked him if thought he was in the right career field. I then asked him if he thought he should resign. We will thin out the herd. The weak always are.

JohnE- Name for me one right that has been succesfully taken away from you. And there is nothing sudden about the anti gun argument. The NRA used to trumpet the need for background checks, LaPierre did it himself circa 1999.
And Mark, as a Cop, do you want MORE guns on the streets to endanger you and your fellow officers? Putting more cars on the highway, driven by more stressed, irrational, emotional people, does not make the highway a safer place.
As a first responder, I want to be able to positively i.d good vs bad quickly and efficiently, so that I may more effectively eliminate the bad...I dont need or want untrained, unqualified shooters confusing the matter even further...
Besides, the argument is primarily about background checks, registration and sales of weapons and tracking of same. Not taking them away. I want them kept out of the WRONG hands, not the right ones.
And Fish, if I give my guns away to anyone, it wont be to you. My kids are already claiming them...

Dummy 2- Yes, I want more weapons in the hands of people I meet everyday. I act as if everyone is armed. More enforcement for criminals and less for law abiding citizens.

Dummy 2- I thought so, I BET your kids won’t get the guns until you’re old or gone. If you talk the talk, walk the walk, but you won’t. Nice try. They almost took my rights away with that last proposed bill and they’ll try again. It’s not just about background chks. We already have background checks. We should have them for all weapons sold but that’s not practical. Bad guys WILL get guns. We can agree on more training, more protection for schools. It’s also about limiting ammunition, banning assault weapons (which is a foolish name to call a weapon.) Look at the bill. Listen, I don’t take advice about kids from ppl without kids, advice from ppl with guns saying it’s ok to take my rights away about guns or advice about the greatest country in the world from ppl in another country. If your bio is true.

JohnE- Dummy 2, I guess we must simply agree to disagree. I respect your opinion, although I do not agree with it. As Voltaire alledgedly said to Montesque, "Although I do not agree with what you say, I shall defend to the death your right to say it..." I paraphrase of course. Stay safe out there...

Uhh and Fish, I have kids, I have guns, and I am a member of the US military serving abroad...wtf are you talking about "If your bio is true...?" You dont remember me from Xxxx AFB, 89-92?
If not I will move along, because you are obviously not the person I remember, in more than one way...

Dummy - Right-wing talking point, talking point, talking point
I've decided that when I'm conversing with an idiot who says any one of a number of different idiotic talking points, I'm just going to walk away. "Spoons make people fat" is definitely on the list. So is "Adam Lanza could've brutally murdered 30 kids with a broadsword or a chainsaw or a pair of machetes at that school with no armed resistance present. But because he used guns, liberals have seized upon to paint guns as evil and in need of greater regulation..."

I'd bet a lot of money that the FB friend of a friend has never tried to chase 30 seven year olds around a room... Seriously, the amount of UNBELIEVABLY STUPID people in this country both saddens me and freaks me out just a bit.

Btw, I owe you rep for that exchange, will make good some day.

Jeesh, catch up.
Ya know, just not sure if I want to anymore. What's the point, no matter how much reason and facts you show these Neanderthals, they just keep blubbering away without the slightest bit of consternation.

Sometimes I think I'd just be better off if I wandered through the woods in a fog, oh, wait...never mind.

Now dummy #2 sounds of with the delightful

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one."

I feel the need to point out how Socialist he sounds. Did I mention that Dummy #1 is a black guy? He has used the "n-word" before in reference to the POTUS, and other derogatory terms also. Interesting to me to see...

But they can put up video links of people misusing the word 'clip' so therefore they have a point.

Jeesh, catch up.
Yeah, a buddy of mine has been a cop for the past decade. This was his post during the hunt for the bombers...

If I hear one more 'journalist' ask someone to describe the severity of the Boston victims' injuries I'm gonna empty a clip into my television.
I'm guessing that the whole "mag vs clip" thing only came about because of the nationwide push for gun control. Kinda like old white people only caring about "government spending" when it's a black guy in the White House with a (D) after his name...
