It might be close at the moment, but consider Kerry had been campaigning for months and Pres Bush only started last week.

Kerry has no passionate support for either Kerry as a leader or his ideas. He's a one trick pony and its the "I'm not GWB" card.

In fact GWB has been campaigning for his entire presidency...hence the trip to Iraq to feed the troops turkey, the 'Victory is ours' aircraft carrier faux pas and all the other publicity stunts that help run a country.

John....you had me after the "I'm not Bush." I don't care about the rest of your platform. As much as I don't like it, the alternative is worse.

Run a fvcking ham sandwich on the Democratic ticket and it's got my vote.

Some Gems that came out of Bush's mouth

[The estate tax is] on its way to being put to extinction. I say, on its way -- you'll hear me talk in a minute that these -- some of these taxes don't really go away. It's like they go away for a period of time, but they come back
More Muslims have died at the hands of killers than -- I say more Muslims -- a lot of Muslims have died -- I don't know the exact count -- at Istanbul. Look at these different places around the world where there's been tremendous death and destruction because killers kill.
If you want to be blunt about what has taken place, sometimes when you don't measure, you just shuffle kids through. Then you wake up at the high school level and find out that the illiteracy level of our children are appalling.
We didn't need any more theory in Washington. We needed people that actually done.

I'm sure you've all seen this.

In recent years, members of Congress have gone to jail for child molestation, fraud and other charges.

117 current and recent members of the House and Senate who have run at least two businesses each that went bankrupt, often leaving business partners and creditors holding the bag.

Seventy-one of them have credit reports so bad they can't get an American Express card on their own (but as members of Congress, they get a government-issued Amex card without a credit check).

Fifty-three have personal and financial problems so serious they would be denied security clearances by the Department of Defense or the Department of Energy if they had to apply through normal channels (but, again, as members of Congress they get such clearances simply because they fooled enough people to get elected).

Twenty-nine members of current and recent Congresses have been accused of spousal abuse in either criminal or civil proceedings.

Twenty-seven have driving while intoxicated arrests on their driving records.

Twenty-one are current defendants in various lawsuits, ranging from bad debts, disputes with business partners or other civil matters.

Nineteen members of current and recent Congresses have been accused of writing bad checks, even after the scandal several years ago, which resulted in closure of the informal House bank that routinely allowed members to overdraw their accounts without penalty.

Fourteen have drug-related arrests in their background, eight were arrested for shoplifting, seven for fraud, four for theft, three for assault and one for criminal trespass.

Does anyone really believe political leaders are above the general public somehow. These are people, like everyone else. They make good and bad choices. At the end of the day, they are no better than you and I. It makes me sick when politicians play the holier than thou card and people eat it up. I hate this time of year (every 4 years, of course) as much as I hate hunting season.

soo N8. still disagreeing with Stuart Mill??

me thinks, the problem is, as the first post demonstrates, that conservatives are so because of indoctrination.

liberal thought on the other hand, is usually the result of reasoning.

historically, liberal thought always resulted from analizying and reasoning the then-current conservative loopholes and limitations.

conservative thought, on the other hand, is just transmiting ideas by indoctrination and tradition, as its own name says.

i cant imagine of a better way to give an example, than the first post of thie thread.

You are assuming (and we know what happens when we assume...) that all liberals are free thinkers.

Now speaking of the population (US) in general, you couldn't be more wrong. That is a rash generalization that won't get people anywhere....other than to get some liberals to give you a self a firming high five. :D

I fear free thinkers are in short supply on both sides these days....present company excepted.

It doesn't take any more brain cells to follow one side over the other. Do you dissagree? "Parrots" don't choose their sides.

In a parrot voice:

Squack! Polly is a liberal

Squack! Polly is a conservative.

Independent thought is not a trait of liberalism nowadays. Only there cloak. Special interest on both sides call the shots anyway parties be damned.

i was talking about liberal thought. and how both schools of thought appear. never mentioned liberals.

of course you can indoctrinate liberal thought. but its not its nature.

conservative thought is by its own nature and definition, indoctrinated.

the key word is MOST. not ALL.

Hmmm so how many liberals (people) are liberal thinkers?

To anyeon watching I don't proof read at all and type poorly so please don't use my example as how "conservatives" spell.....eh Fluff? :D

...and don't tell me not one person was ready to follow that stuff Alexis posted to a political party comment. I made a premptive stike.... :)

Liberal thought does not make a liberal. So a conservative can have liberal thoughts. Now where does that leave us?
