Quote: "The new plan calls for members of the church to throw materials into garbage cans and then light candles to symbolically "burn" the material."

Somehow I think this will lose some of the intended drama.

I wonder if these folks had read there Bible, I mean really read it. If they had they would find out that even Paul read the writings and works of pagan poets and prophets and even quotes them in the Scriptures. Christians and Jews in the 1st century were some of the most well read people of the times and yet somehow modern evangelical Christianity here in the US at least has lost sight of that.

Perhaps. A satinist would certainly never consider burning the material.

Unfortunately a large percentage of people just use sections of the bible to enforce their particullar motives. Not to mention that the modern bible is an assembly of books selected from a greater collection of writings that was used to enforce the particlar motives of the Church.

So true and so sad. If I hear one more preacher use Malachi 3 and "robbing God" to "encourage" people to tithe, I think I'll scream (a passage totally misused and taken out of context!!) :mumble:

Once while driving accross Pa in a rental car with no CD player the only radio station I could get was some religious talk show about finances. People with debt problems were calling in. Example: Somebody has huge CC debt, late mortgage, student loans, family loans, child support, etc etc. The only advice that was given was to make sure that no matter how bad things got they should remember to tithe. It made me physically sick. IMO faith is a good thing, but most churches are little different than corporations with a powerfull lobby.
