This is probably obvious to a lot of you, but I still think it's worth pointing out.

I spend a fair amount of time on RM and reading various MTB pubs. I also spend waaaay too much time analyzing things... thinking I need this part or I have to do such and such. I've come to decide it's all a bunch of BS.

All I need is more time to ride. All I have to do is ride when I have the time.

Period.

oh oh oh! i gotta another one for ya! STOP READING MBA.

MBA takes money from bike companies for advertisement so it's in MBA's best interest to make you think you have to buy the latest and greatest. Not to mention their advice and reviews are pure sh!t.

Almost all these sports boil down to "mountain time" - if you're trying to learn to ski there's no substitute for 30-100 days/year on the slopes. :D

Skill clinics & reading books and such I'm sure are nice, but I'd so much rather just get out and ride/ski/climb - on my own time on my own terms.

If you are analyzing when you could be riding, shame on you. If you are analyzing when you can't ride and should be doing other things, welcome to the obsession.

Can't believe I'm about to defend MBA in any way, but, all MTB mags take money from bike companies to advertise. If they didn't you'd be paying $30/issue.

yeah, it is all BS. But to alot of riders (sounds like yourself included) it is more than just ridiing. the best analogies I can think of are some dudes and their hot-rods or ricers or motorcycles, that always read all the rags, spend their spair change on the latest this or that, tweking their machines. I have 2 uncles that are the same but with PC's. they are always reading the puter mags, buying the lastest technology trying to get their machine faster & stuff.

actual riding should always be the priority, not trends in technology & latest greatest componet group....planned obsolessence, more or less.
