Im going to build a halfpipe in my backyard. I need a good set of plans . what would be the best design for mountian bikes or does it matter if I just use skate ramp plans?

make your own plans! chances are that skate mini pipes wont be wide enough for your mtb if u plan on doing any spinning, make sure its AT LEAST 2 bike lengths wide so around 12' or so, and you want a smooth curve and a longer bottom, use a cardboard template when cutting the curved sides for your halfpipe so that the thing will be symmetrical and level. and use lots of 2x4's to hold it together because u will be hitting it harder then u would be if u were on a little skateboard
Why not just carve up your yard into a giant dirt bowl ala the Snake Pit? Now that would be sweet.

opjones is right: you want at least a 9 foot radius on whatever you build. skateboard ramps tend to have tighter/quicker transition. you need a big ramp with mellower transition.
