Halliburton Subsidiary Gets Contract to Add Temporary Immigration Detention Centers

By RACHEL L. SWARNS
Published: February 4, 2006

WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 — The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract worth up to $385 million for building temporary immigration detention centers to Kellogg Brown & Root, the Halliburton subsidiary that has been criticized for overcharging the Pentagon for its work in Iraq.

KBR would build the centers for the Homeland Security Department for an unexpected influx of immigrants, to house people in the event of a natural disaster or for new programs that require additional detention space, company executives said.

"It's the type of contract that could be used in some kind of mass migration," Ms. Zuieback said.

A spokesman for the corps, Clayton Church, said that the centers could be at unused military sites or temporary structures and that each one would hold up to 5,000 people.

"When there's a large influx of people into the United States, how are we going to feed, house and protect them?" Mr. Church asked. "That's why these kinds of contracts are there."
How creepy is that, and how big of a step is it from "Immigration Detention Center" to "Internment Camp"? Since when do we need to imprison new immigrants to protect them?

Immigration Detention Centers are the new black this year.

I bet this was a no bid contract to boot. Man, if I lacked a good values system, I would own stock in Halliburton.

We shouldn't have to. Hand em a bottle of water, kick em in the ass and send em back across the dessert from whence the came. It would only cost a buck.

Why would we hand them water, you hippy? I dont want my taxes giving illegal mexicans water. I say we line up artillery at the border and dare them to try and cross. If they negotiate the minefield in the drive and beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes and if they make it past all that...they're good enough to stay, I guess.

My grandparents came to this country by boat from scotland during the second world war. They applied for working visas, obtained citizenship, and started a family of 10. They worked there ass's of day in and day out, only to remain poor, but they were proud to do it and proud to be americans. Unlike these peice o **** borders crashers we got today.

We got lotsa room, but we are sending the deep southerners to live up near the arctic circle. The Coloradans have to head to Alberta and you won't be allowed to vote lest another dubya gets voted in.

And they were the downtrodden lower class that every capitalist system needs and thrives upon...and you buy into it...It's like Jews voting for Hitler on a much more subtle level...

Maybe they stayed poor because they had ten kids?

Having said that, they did the best they could. Based on the intelligence of one of their grandsons, I'd guess they weren't the brightest stars in the sky.
