I had a 24" Combat SAS rearwheel on my hardtail i 2003. Broke the rim in under a month. Hub was a Hüge FR.

Maybe because im 230lbs..... without gear

Halo Combats don't have a very good rep here in the UK - the little kids buy them 'cos they're cheap and they look good but they behave like they're made of cheese. In my store I've seen so many quite new Combats that are irreparably dented and flatspotted. Halo also do the Tornado rim/wheelset which is way better made and much stronger.

The Halo reminds me of the ol Doublewide. They were strong but the material was so soft that they would flatspot fairly easy. I dont own a pair of the Halos but a guy I know does.

I say go for it but watch your tire pressure.

i had a set of halo rims (not that whole wheel), they were biult up by myself and yes i do know how to biuld a wheel. these thing were the cheesest rims i have ever use i could even keep the front one striaght! the rear one was always out of wack and dented and flat spoted like butter. also those weights have to be wrong i had the combat disc and they weighted more than my vuelta's which weighted about 800 grams!

i would never even think about buying another set.

note i ride fr and dh hardtail and i weight 245 without gear. i don't expect rims to last long but these this just fell apart.

Yeah the doublewides were weird...at one point half my spokes were loose and I didn't even realize it but the rim was still straight. Yet you'd hit a rock in a weird way and you'd get a flat spot. I was known to run my tire pressures fairly low so I'm sure that didn't help. They were heavy, holy crap. If the Halo rims are similar, I'd say forget it.

I got a set of combats and so far they've been great.
Due to the weather, I've only been riding downtown recently (stairs, stairs, more stairs) and, like I said, they've held up like a champ.

Plus they're white.

Wait, are you seriously considering replacing a set of Mavic 321s with Halos? Good lord, don't do it...especially to such a nice bike.

Those halos will sure look good, but god, they're heavy and have a mediocre e-rep. Get some new Mavics if you need rims. Don't be fooled by white powdercoat!!

ok well my cranks jus showed up so if i can build it up in time ill take it to the bike jam if not ill jus take my draco. can you guys suggest any wheels i could get for round the same price? or should i just get some 721 or 729 hoops and build them on my existing hubs? i was thinking of just getting a whole new back wheel because that wheel was a cheap build and it has a dimension hub on it. so i dunno.
