What is the width of the groove where the chainring is? Wondering if I can put a belt cog in there for a two speed bike.

THAT is an interesting proposition. Too narrow for a stock system. The belts that are out there are at least 10mm. The cogs are typically a few mm wider and there is a flange on there. If you got a 10mm wide belt and shaved one of the cogs it would be possible. You would also have to modify a rear cog to a 4 bolt mount to get the proper size.

Edit: 0.41 inches converts to ~10.4mm

That gearing would be unusably high for offroad.
