How is everybody today?
I had an awesome ride yesterday. I'll tell you my GF is starting to get really good and really daring too.... she amazed me last night. I think we'll be getting her a FS bike by next year.

Hopefully after work today I'll be signing up for classes again. This should be fun for my check book!!!! :)

Have a great day everybody!!

Wife and I bailed on our road ride yesterday and did more packing instead. We're making a lot of progress. When we first started packing, the apartment turned into a disaster area. Now it's actually looking a little more organized, just boxes everywhere.

MTB ride planned for tonite. :)

Morning -

Stosh is that two rides in two days?! :thumb:

I probably won't be able to ride until this weekend... Oh well. Work sucks but I got my review yesterday and they threw some more money at me (roughly double the standard, "you did a good job this year" raise), so I guess I can't complain too much!

I think if my boss doesn't give me a good raise next March I'll be seriously looking for other employment.

Tell him that at least.. Most companies would rather throw a little more money at their employees than train a new person.

Boss gave me ~7% yesterday. I was pretty happy.

Weather at the start of yesterday's ride:
It was like a humid 87 yesterday. You would be cranking thru the woods then come to an open bluff and the breeze would be so nice!!!

Good Morning...I'm a little tired this morning. My neighborood, participated in this National Night Out thing, and I wasn't looking forward to it, but I added a cooler of beer to the mix, and I had a great time. Everyone brought a little something to eat and drink. The fire department and police department came out an gave kids stickers, and little tours of their cars, and trucks. It was pretty fun. I'm planning to take my (new to me) Racer-X to the trail after work for the first time. I should grinning from ear to ear.
Congrats on the raises...Our company has been cutting back and cutting back, and not even looking at you for 30 months. I've been thinking about looking.

oh, and good morning everyone
Either the Reservoir or Tyler Mill. Depends on MtnBikerChk. She may have to run an errand after work, which puts us at Tyler Mill. If she does it at lunch, we ride WH. We're thinking the usual 5:15/5:30, slow pace. Me, MBC, Mark.

Yeah well 7% of nothing is still nothing.
But for real my boss gave this one lady here who is very good at what she does an exactly 4% or 5% raise which was something like $.96/hr I mean COME ON $.96!!!!
He gave me a $1 raise but I make a lot less than her.

That stinks. Companies need to understand that no matter how much they cut back, if they screw their employees, they'll never get ahead. My boss is really great at making his employees want to do a good job and rewarding us when we do.

Morale is a lot more important than a lot of people often give credit for. A company with bad morale will have bad output.

Stosh: unfortunately, the economy right now isn't fantastic, and a 3-3.5% raise is pretty much standard at the moment. Sucks, but a lot of people would be pretty happy with 5%.

That doesn't mean that you're making an appropriate wage, though, and certainly if you feel you're getting screwed, you should talk to your boss about it or look elsewhere...

I hear that! My boss told me the day of 9-12% raises are history, and be prepared to see 4-8% as the norm. I couldn't believe it. Everyone in my org is looking around. The moral is horrible, but they throw in a free group lunch every once in a while. They're so lame.

Well, if those people who are looking find a decent sized company where 9-12% raises are the norm, let me know, 'cause there sure as heck aren't any around that I've talked to.

Yeah...I think that's the way it's going to be...No one around me has found one either. One thing that I can't stand anymore is out sourcing. Right now we're moving a bunch of work that we moved to India about 4 years ago to Egypt. It's like a game of pass around...Don't companies understand that everyone will eventually demand that same. I guess we'll have to wait our turn huh.

Pretty much... Companies outsource to whatever economically underdeveloped country is cheap at the moment. Eventually, they flood the country with jobs, people start making some decent money, they go through a sociatal shift - often accompanied by good things, like human (especially women's) rights - and suddenly people realize that they deserve to be paid for a hard day's work. It's no longer economically sensible for these companies to outsource there, so they move on.

Eventually, I'm sure, things will come full circle, there won't be a good country to outsource to, and they'll move jobs back to the U.S.

No wind yesterday.

The trail runs along a river so depending on where you are you get a little cooling.

Yep...A friend of mine was telling me about a book he was reading about this. It was saying it will take about 15 years for it to go full circle, but not before our job market is horrible. He was saying that most people will be self employeed trying to just make ends meet. It sure would be nice if we could get some control on this before it gets to that point. I know for companies to be competitive they have to follow the trend, but if we established some guide lines it might help our country out. I mean we can't buy when we don't have money. We need jobs to make money. I don't see what so hard to understand. I think several people see it happening, but why does it continue, is the question.

I think part of it has to do with the fact that a lot of companies - especially the big ones that do the outsourcing - are becoming much more global in their sales. Thus, the American economy is less important to them than the global economy.

Just speculation, of course. I'm just observing what my own company is doing with their sales and marketing strategy.

Where the heck did I hear the quote in reference to attacking Iraq "Bush has it all wrong we don't go in and bomb them, we make them like American products and then we sell it to them"
