Yeah first ride out the pack leaked all over me. It was a nice size but it never fit right either and I might as well have worn 10' of baseboard heating on my back the focker was so hot.

What aspect sucked the most? I know that Camelback seems to have the best valve. I've been eyeing those as potential gofts for the group of friends that I go camping with. I have a (big pimpin) Camelback Peak Bagger that makes an awesome day-pack. Would the Wal-Mart stuff suck for that purpose? Please keep in mind that if I ever do buy them as gifts, it would be for non gear-whores.

I have, and it worked just fine. Seriously. I finally forgot to clean it out one day and then two weks later a new eco-system formed in the bladder.

They are fine.

just support your local outdoor shop or lbs and buy a camel back. or be cheap and check out the internet for some nice hydration packs at a cheap price.

I have never cleaned out my camelback, i just keep filling it and filling it. I did however have to clean out the mouth piece because it had some nasty as$ stuff growing in it.... I used a q-tip and mouth wash....

i only put water in my bladder...use water bottles for gatorade..then i never have to clean it...its got a detachable hose and some blue gel built in...i throw it in the freezer overnite and it keeps cold until empty..got a lizard skin thing on the hose too...i hate drinking piss warm water on a long ride
