I am getting rid of my 888 to get a more nimble SC fork...I am thinkin about a 7" Marz 66 on my Foes Fly. Anyone have any comments on stifness and such? Will this fork be good for shuttling and DH trails, or am I going to feel a big difference in the stifness between this fork and a DC?

My initial thoughts, as an owner, are that you won't be disappointed with the 66. It has the beefiest steerer and biggest crown out there. I'm in the position to talk stiffness as the former owner of arguably the stiffest fork out there - the '99-'02 Monster T. After several rides I have no worries about the 66. I know the Monster is stiffer, not 'cuz I can feel it, just because it *has* to be, but I can't tell the difference.

Come on.... You cant tell the difference in stiffness between a 66 and a 99-02 Monster? Your joking right?

Hey, I ran a Z150 for 2 years on my Bullit. Now it's time to step up to a 888.
Unless you are really stuck on x-ups or bar spins, why step down to a "7" inch fork? Are you going to reduce the travel on the Fly also?

I have a 7" 888 on the bike and its perfect. I live in florida so 8" is not neccessary. I got rid of my hardtail and miss the feeling...so thinking this SC fork will make it feel a lil snappier. I do plan to travel a few times a year but mainly ride locally

Why would a 170mm 66 feel any snappier than a 170mm 888? Seriously, barspins and x-ups are IT as far as advantages. Although I didn't notice it too much when I rode it, I'd be willing to bet head on smacks would flex the 66 fore and aft more than your 888.

Yeah, I've tried a SC fork. It was good.
Please do NOT post your sexual experiences on this forum. :nope:
There are a lot of kids over here.

Thank you.

I really wanted the 170mm 66,
but after seeing, feeling and comparing it to a 04 Super-T,
I decided to take the Super-T, because of the smaller A2C
and I 'feel' more secure with a dual crown.

The 66RC is truly amazing. I tried my friends 66 and was totally impressed. Now I own one two.
One thing to remember is that the 66 is 25mm. / 1", taller than the 170mm. 888. So it's gonna get slack

I would've thought the Demo's would be more suited to a 66 than an Enduro? It's a big heavy fork, keep that in mind, and I wouldn't put it on any bike I wouldn't put a 888 on.

In a nutshell.... The 66 and 888 weigh almost the same. The 66 and 8" 888 are the same height. Your current 7" 888 is 1" lower than the 66. Your Fly will NOT feel better with the 66.

When people say "snappy" they usually mean more manipulation of the bike when riding on the ground or in the air for the same or less effort. So I guess losing a pound would feel good (if you even notice) but the slacker head angle would make it feel slower directing it around while it's rolling.....a detriment that would to me outweigh the loss in weight.

If the lowers are the same as an 888, and the travel is the same, how is the 66 going to be taller then the 7" 888?

True the 66 is only 1/4 lb lighter than the 888. 7.25 vs 7.5.The 888 actually weighs 7.25 with flat crowns-either brand.
True it is also almost 1" taller for the given amount of travel.
It is taller cuz it uses thr same lowers but the crown grasps more of the leg to be strong enough since it's a SC.Check out the Huge sc crown
It still rides great and could be a really fun fork, but i can't possibly see why someone would trade a 888 170 for a 66 170.

I ended up with a 888 170 on my FR bike for this reason,if you want a snappier ride then consider flat crowns for your 888 170.

Robbie Bourdon looks to be luvin his 66 in NWD 5 though.

PS check out all the boyz rockin our silver crowns in the vid!Richie said to me he was going to go to a 170 888 til he got the crowns and now he is very happy.

the 66 is a lot cheaper, but now at least the 888 can be bought with the Zoke flat crowns for $150 instead of being after market only.

Edit: Listen to Kidwoo AND Krispy, the Leprechaun bringing it to ya on X-mas eve!

Listen to Kidwoo.

The 66 is taller even with the same travel because it's only crown needs to be beefier and thus it requires more material to get the job done. Since the 888 has two crowns, the lower crown can be a little less burly and lower profile.

So the question is do you want to replace a fork that works great and is more adjustable for one that is slightly lighter and an inch taller? Expect a degree slacker head tube angle and somewhere from 1/2 to 3/4 inch difference in bb height, wheelbase, bar height, and standover.

Personally I'd keep the 888 and spend the money on a pimp set of wheels or something else. Wait, that IS what I'm doing with the 888 on my vp-free... :)

The 66 is taller then the 888. A 66 in 7" will be as tall as a 8" 888. So if you want your bike to feel "snappy" you would have to get a 6" 66 for it to keep the same geometry as the 7" 888 does.

Just get lower crowns for your 7" 888 and the bike will have the feeling you are looking for.

I ride a FLY with the 8" 888 and drop crowns and it feels great. I do run the longer AVY in the rear so the rear is tipped up a little. The Avy is 11.25" while the Curnutt is 11.15" and the Romic is 11".
