I'm sure I'll get folks all fired up with this topic but whatever...For those of you who have been around for a while (early-mid 2000's) have you noticed the forum content is less interesting? I used to be on here 24/7 back in the day, it was always a great source of new info and entertainment...Might just be me but the topics just aren't the same. We don't have the jump on new products as much, the classifieds are completely shot...Any thoughts?

In the 2000s forums were about the only popular social media. Now there are shit tons of options, so forums obviously have taken a popularity hit.

yea, there's a lot of other sources out there that get the scoops before the forums. a lot fewer industry folk these days as well.

The downhill forum is pretty dead these days. It's true that there are a lot of other sites and social media available, but I'd much rather discuss new products and so on on the monkey than on pinkbike, facebook or god forbid mtbr.

Apart from scoops which naturally lend themselves to other forms of media there is just less general and technical discussion going on. Maybe RM needs a new admin?

Funny I was talking to another member about this this week. The DH forum has really gone to the shitter not much useful information but then again I don't ride DH anymore. As said I'm sure social media is to blame forums is not cool for the kids so not much fresh blood being pumped into the forums.

This is thread is depressing- I love RM!
Maybe less industry presence than the heyday of the DW-million-page-long-juggernaut-of-underground-marketing thread, but we have some good company presence IMO (until we scare them off). GG, specialized, TLD, transition, Scott, come to mind...

Back in the day bikes weren't very good. Every other thread here was about how to get your top of the line POS fork/shock to perform reasonably well. Shit truly was flexy. I probably found RM for the "bike stuff". I always knew what the latest greatest stuff coming out was usually wanted it. Then bikes got good. I see no reason to replace anything until it breaks. I have no idea what kind of new shit there is out there nor do I care. I'll figure it out when I need it.

Front Range, dude...
I was referred to teh Monkey eons ago by a long departed member whom I used to pedal with. He said the Lounge fucks were complete bozos and he was right...haven't heard from him in years, but his advice still rings true.

A finer bunch of internet cranks I have never known. But I spend most of my time looking for free porn anyway, so what do I know anyway?

Great observation what a difference today. Just look at the Sunday thread in the DH forum. No thread like that anymore.

I remember when the Virginia forum was fairly active. A bunch of complete psychopaths, the vast majority of regular posters ended up getting banned.
