I just discovered that I seem to have flipped my Float rl into lockout mode while riding trails today. Now the lever does increase the damping but it is far from locked out. Have I killed my new Float RL?
If it's an older shock, you've probably just accelerated what happens to them all anyway. They do start to work "less" with age. Unless you've got a bike that suffers greatly from pedal torque, just learn to ride without the lockout. If you miss it too much, it will get revalved when you get it rebuilt anyway.
Seems strange that it would happen to a new shock, but if you were wailing on it, you might have damaged it.
Contact Fox and ask. In my experience, they have excellent customer service. If it does need work, they'll turn it around quickly, so you shouldn't be out more than a weekend.
If it costs you more than $30, consider it a lesson in using your lockout. Depending on your frame, you shouldn't need it except to grind up paved roads to the trailhead, in which case you should gut it out and ride up the trail!
Heehee, now I'm just being an a$$, sorry. Seriously, call FOX and talk with them. Then report back to us to let us know we were wrong, it was just some other little problem you fixed yourself with a new O-ring and some grease.
The only reason it was locked out is because I'm a dork. I probably flipped the lever when I was dragging my arse out of the bushes after missing a turn.
I'll give Fox a call. If they can turn it around in a week or so I'll be happy.

Check with your LBS about a spare shock. They may have one sitting around that you can use while yours is MIA. Hell, if you were local, I'd lend ya' one, I've got spares.
Otherwise, there are tonnes of monkeys in the Puget Sound area, post up on the PNW board if see if you can borrow one.
I talked to a tech at Fox. He said that the lockout is a separate system from the compression damping and that if the lockout is not working properly it should not affect the normal function of the shock.
Ever heard of Push Industries?
They're a company in Irvine, CA that does revalving and upgrading on Fox shox. They totally remove/disable the lockout when they do their thing on Fox shox.
I think I'll just ride it as is and put off spending any more money on it for now. When the time comes to get it redone, I do have an older float for a spare shock.
