just found out that via sea transit, my wife's boxxer got ruined. it's twisted (both lowers and crowns) beyond repair, so i gotta file an insurance claim and get a new fork (luckily the frame is ok; the fork was resting against the frame and something must have leaned on it quite heavily...for packaging all they did was to take the handlebar off, turn the fork, and cover it in bubble wrap  ). so, because she's light and not too aggressive a rider, the boxxer should still be a good match. my question is, will the '05 forks w/ 8" of travel really slacken out the bike (a 222) too much? it's got a very slack head angle now.

and are the forks available yet? i saw that general lee and vitox got '05s already, but are they available to us commoners? if not, what's the ETA?

and are the ti springs from the WC version available after-market?

I think the Team and Race models are already available - WC by November I believe. The new Boxxers are exactly one inch taller than the 7" models, but you might be able to adjust the HA by moving the crowns.

No clue about availability of the Ti springs as an after-market item.

How come you didn't pack your wife's bike yourself before moving?

they wouldn't let us pack anything, or else the insurance would have been voided. after i heard that they were just wrapping it in bubble wrap, i had hil readjust the insured worth of the bikes...the spooky and evil made it through unscathed at least.

well hopefully it will go OK w/ the insurance. my shop won't order the fork until i pay for it, and i wanna wait to see what i can get from the insurance. i'm hoping for an '05 boxxer team w/ ti springs. we'll see.

hey fraser - let me know how slack the Orange gets w/ an 8" fork on it. the head tube ain't all that long so maybe you slide the legs up a bit?

Possibly ya. I was also told that the 223 would be adjusted for an 8" fork...but they said slacker. Something was lost in the translation from english to american I think. ha.

Don't you have a 222? The angles are very different from the 223 of last year, and this years even more so. I will let you know next week i hope.

yeah, this would be going on an '03 222, size small (15"). i think the head angle on the 222 is something like 64, and that's w/ a 7" fork i believe. i am just worried that an 8" fork will chop it out even more.

Team, yep.

If I want the Ti springs I'll pay the extra $100. No way i am paying for slippery silver. :p
I think the WC also comes with a lower top crown? Or was that an optioni when your teammate ordered his?

I believe his choices were between 2 crowns ya, and he said no way we would need anythings pecial, the new crown configuration fits on the 223 perfectly (I needed a flat crown before).

I believe the slippery silver and ti springs were the only big differences. I am not sure, calling about mine this afternoon.

Cool...good to know since I would like to get the flatter one of the two (crowns).

id be weary of the ti springs

theyre supposed to save 180g but id be surprised if that actually happens.

you see, the springs is where RS saved a lot of weight on the 05 fork, and they are the reason (as far as i could decypher) the 05 team is half an ounce lighter than the 04 team.

id say go for the team and then see if those ti springs save any substantial amount of weight, actually maybe theyll just go for one spring.

i was laready running my dorado as low in the crowns as a could so the boxxer added aprox. 1/2." i adjusted the shockmount to steepen the headangle a bit and all said and done it raised my bottom bracket about 1/4" to 14.5" i already ran a low slack setup so i dn;t even notice the differance. maybe i'll get around to writing a report on how it rides (very nicely) and fraser can post it up on the site. . . .

I got a question for you boxxer guys...

The WC for 05, do their forks fix problems that previous years had. Mainly the black box deal. Is that a standard thing now with Boxxers?

I dunno, the few boxxer's i've tried I like. I thought about picking up an 04 WC since they are cheap at some online retailers but at the same time I'd like that 8" of travel. Plus it'd drop some weight off my M1 (shiver to a boxxer) so that's a plus.

Just curious if problems were fixed with the newer boxxers

04 and 05 Boxxers don't require any mods - they come with the BB kit already.

Are those forks on an 2004 Orange 223? If so, you don't happen to have any pictures of it? I have an 04 223 and will be getting some Boxxers for it. I don't really know which one to get the 05 or the old 04. Someone please help me out a little. I want my bb to be low and the headangle fairly steep. Would the 05 Boxxer be too long and mess up the geometry?

getting a fairly steep head angle on a 223 might be a challenge, if my experience w/ a 222/boxxer is of any value. i think w/ a 7" fork it's like 64 deg or so.

put an 888 on it.

Thanks for the input narlus, but some more is still welcome. As far as the low bb and steep HA goes I think I'm better off with a 2004 Boxxer. On the other hand the 8 inches of travel on the 05 model would be nice.
