Ive enclosed some pics here. Now to begin with my 1st (smalest) sproecket is missing 2 teeth jsut so you dont need to tell me that.

I took the deraiiler off (only using the allen bolt, I left the chain and the rear shifter cable on) to clean something and now it doesnt work. it hits the sprocket with one of the sprockets on the deraiiler. It wont shift, it just hits. Im thinking something is in wrong.

Look @ the pics.

Thanks,
Rob

That is the tension screw that hits the deraileur hanger. If you look at the last Picture it is the screw that is halfway tightened right next to the smallest cog. If you tighten that it brings the der away from the cassette.

Ok Here are a few things:
I assume that you did not alter the chain length?!
I also assume that when you took the deraileur off that the spring did not move or spin around. (look at the der, there is a lip on the spring that would hit a tab on the der itself right where the deraileru screws into the hanger) if that tab on the der is mangled then it could have spun around. That would meen that you have lost your b-tension entirely.

If that is not the case and the tab on the spring is sitting in its normal location against the der hanger then you should be able to tighten the b-tension screw and the der will pull back from the cassette.

Does any of this make sense?

When i get home i will take some pictures of what i am talking about.
