Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the main differences are between the older G1 calipers and the newer G2 calipers on Hayes Mag brakes, are there any major reasons why newer G2 are better for DH ?

Also when was the G2 introduced, in 2003 or 2002 ?

The main differences between the 2 just make it easier to work on the brakes. The G2 has a window on top the caliper to better align the rotor. Also, there is no compression bushing that has to be replaced every time you remove the hose on end of the hose at the caliper. On the G2, there is just a screw-in fitting instead of the bushing.

Uhhh, you don't have to use a new compression washer every time you remove the line, only if you cut it.
Hayes went to the new hose end because they are cheaper.
The only advantage I have found to the g2 is the brakes are a bit easier to set up with the window. You can only really use the window on the rear. When it's on the front, the window it looking at the back of the fork leg so you can't see anything anyways.

In summary, it doesn't matter at all.
