I'm debating over these two brakes, in 160mm: the hayes are a bit more, and a more proven design, but the avid juicy 7 is so popular, I wonder if the Juicy 5 will end up being better than the MAG.

Any advice or experience is appreciated.

It seems like the juicy 5 is a much better deal, all the design advantages minus one small feature which isn't even necessary.

But the question still stands: how do they compare to the Hayes MAG brakes?

Just out of curiousity, other than the pad contact adjustment, what ARE the design advantages of the Avids?

Well firstly those concave/convex washers for placing the caliper, and also the pivot of the lever is closer to the bar. Apparently they're also very simple to bleed and get set up correctly.

I'm just hoping the juicy 5s arent like Hayes HFX-9s. HFX-9s appear to be identical to Mags yet they are very different and not nearly as good. The juicy 5s could be the same way compared to the 7s. I guess we'll have to wait until someone tries them.

I've done a couple of rides on juicy 5's. nice brakes. good modulation and power. very pleased with'em. Little better feel than the hayes, haven't needed to play with the adjustments, so I can't comment there. Instalation was very simple though!
