I’m doing a rebuild on my Hayes (2000 hydro) and cannot get the pistons out.

I tried compressed air and busted off the posts trying to pull them out, but they ain’t moving.

Anyone have any tips?

you should just be able to pry them out with a flathead screwdriver. Just make sure you don't mess up the actual caliper at all, it's ok to break the old pistons (especially since you alread did). Watch out when you're prying them out that you don't put direct pressure onto the caliper with the arm of the screwdriver.

Really the only thing holding them in is a tight seal with an o-ring.

dont pry!!! since you arlready have the caliper apart continue to use compressed air. if you are sick of trying compressed air then put it all back together bleed the sys. and then hold one of the pistons back with a DH tire lever or something like it and pump each of them most of the way out. then go ahead pump one them out and use air to remove the other. also make sure the piston has not gotten crooked in the caliper that will cause it to bind.

Thanks, both of you :)

I finally got them out. One of them was binding really bad, but a friend at work popped them out.

Looks like a good tight air seal was needed. My friend had a rubber tip on his air hose, mounted them in a vise and pop...suckers flew out in about 2 seconds!

Yee Haw....should be up and riding this weekend.

Thanks again for the help.
