Hayes still a pain in the a$$

My hayes HFX-9's have another problem they are practicaly brand new.
The lever only rebound 1/2 of t5he way when I let go and I need to push it ou the rest of the way.
Is this a caiper problem or a MC problem?
This devoloped one day after rebuilding the caliper. Im going to call hayes on Monday because the system itself is only a few months old le talone the entire bike. :help: Let me know ASAP

first, bleed the sucker a few times. that may solve the problem, sometimes annoying little air pockets get in there and are very difficult to get out. if that doesnt work, id get on hayes's ass and try to get them to send you a set of mag levers. otherwise, hit up ebay for a set of mag levers, that should cure the problem.

well, i wouldnt exactly say that. the hfx-9 is the only real problem brake. they made it for a lot of other bikes than just cannondales, they are spec'd on stock bikes from kona, jamis, and just about every other major manufacturer. they are, as far as i know, the cheapest set of hydros on the market, and hydro discs are a big selling point, especially in the really competetive market of 1000-1800 freeride bikes. the problem is, hayes cut costs just a bit too much on the lever, and it shows. the calipers themselves function fine, with a set of older hayes levers or mag levers, they work great. average joe bike rider who buys the bike for status as much as to actually ride it, they work fine. its only when they are pushed, hard, that their weakness shows. obviously, there are a lot of average joe bike riders out there, because hayes is selling a crapload of hfx-9 brakes to oem's, i see them on a ton of bikes. im not defending an obviously mediocre product, but hayes is making money on the brakes, dispite the excessive number of warranty issues with them, which is why they refuse to change the design or stop selling them. which leaves us, the real guys who go out and ride our bikes hard, 2 choices- either upgrade the levers, or buy a bike with different brakes. it sucks for us, but until enough people start making it a financial issue with hayes to fix them, they arent going to change. complaining about them on forums doesnt do much, hurting hayes in the wallet will. im not saying boycott hayes products, i own a set of their hydro and mechanical discs, but if you refuse to buy hfx-9's, eventually, someone will take notice.

I didnt but the bike because of the brakes. Personally i realyh want the jucy five but i dont have the money.
Defending my self I think the company has gone cheap on the new lever because they are making so mutch off cannondale in witch i tthink is a s%$^& company science i heard of them.
Im a Specialized bitch and get pro deal from them so the bike i chose had a crapy lever and that cant be helped.

But thanks for the advice about trying to get the mag levers. I will cal them tomarow. :mumble: :thumb:

I finaly got ahold of Hayes and it turnd out they have fixed the problems w/ the Hfx-9 lever and the part that the reach ajuster was too tight in the lever it self and would seize the lever. All i needed to do was scrape the hole of the lever and clean the peice that fits in it. That peice is supposedto fall out freely anh it usally dosent. If any of your brakes are less than 2-3 years old and the reach screw waks out the company will send out a new peice that willl grip the threads better for free and it will come within 2-3 days.
