so my friends bike starts making noise and of course he pawns it off on to me to fix...it's weird every time i turn the headset from side to side it makes a pop when it gets to 45degrees or more...i havn't taken it apart yet...but if anyone has had this problem before and knows a quick fix that would be cool.

also it's a raceface headset

that's why we drink it here
Something is not aligned correctly. Take it apart, make sure everything is pressed in the way it should be, and reassemble it. Make sure the numbnuts didnt do something stupid regarding the bearing race on the fork crown. Whenever one of my friends has a problem it seems to have something to do with that.

Is it cartridge bearings or ball bearings?

How long is your steer tube. is it conected to the stem right? is there a little space between the forks steer tube and the top of the stem?

if you dont know what that is then what is the head set called?

if could be that a ball bearing is loose or has fallen out.

My FSA headset was doing that, I took it apart to find that one of the ball bearings was completely crushed into little metal shavings. Take it apart and check, It took me a while to clear out the metal, but I just wd-40ed it and cleaned out everything, re-packed it with grease, and put it back together, now its fine.
