some frames the cups need to be deep, this helps to keep the head tube from ovalizing. short is standard most xc bikes. flush or integrated is for a low stack height my giant has an integrated headset. it has a long headtube so a flush keeps the stack height low

What frame is it going on and what are you planning on doing with it?

Frankly, the 1.5 headtube standard has such a huge increase in strength anyway, and a pretty deep minimum insertion to boot, the deep press headset seems like overkill.

The flush headset will lower your stack height by quite a bit. You will be restricted to ONLY running 1 1/8" forks, though, and to run a 1.5" fork you'll need a new headset. Do this if you like a low front end and don't care about running 1.5" forks.

edit: you DO know that's a 1.5 headset, right? :p :dancing:

I've got an older (mid-90's) Cannondale frame that I'm building into an SS rig. The fork I'm going to use is a Rock Shox SID with a standard 1-1/8" steerer.

To me, it looks like going with the "short" version will probably be the most compatible with the frame seeing as how I don't exactly know what to expect.

Yeah, I wouldn't go with the deep press version. The headtube may need to be reamed deeper, though. Cannondale's old headtubes are the right diameter for a 1.5" headset, but their spec wasn't as deep for the cup skirts that press into the frame. The skirts on that 1.5" headset will be deeper, even if you're not getting the deep press one.

It may fit fine, but you might have to find a shop with a 1.5 headtube reamer. Just FYI. You could do it yourself with a dremel tool or something but that's not the greatest idea in the world :p
