Insurance as now operated is taxation by corporations. I would completely phase out for-profit insurance over a period of two decades.
I would phase out for-profit health insurance before i tried to eliminate for-profit health care.
People being motivated financially to develop devices/medications/careers that keep me healthy is A-OK.
Corporations being financially motivated to relentlessly drive up the costs of healthcare, while simultaneously working to reduce quality of care, is not.

Looks like I tore some meniscus and possibly PCL on the iditarod trail. I was getting significant pain and decided to cut it short at a lodge, rather than get rescued off the trail.

So go to doc, they do a quick eval, take some x-rays, but say that they really need an MRI to tell anything and figure out how to move forward, and that they have to submit a bunch of info to the insurance company and the insurance company has to "approve" the MRI. I mean, what the fuck, if you need an MRI before anything else, why are we fucking around with x-rays and appointments that aren't MRIs? Got the MRI today, 100 copay, but luckily I don't have to choose between rent and MRI like some people. I did ask the person at the desk when we were going to get the "really good health care" that the president promised. They laughed, but sympathetically. Hell, what the fuck is even the point of co-pay? When the procedure is 5,000 or whatever, it's such a drop in the bucket that I'm not sure what the point is, except some sort of symbolical gesture to remind you that you "be paying for this".

I did start yelling at the pro-fetusers across the street at the stoplight when I was leaving. After saying that they are trying to ram their religion down everyone's throats, they showed me the obligatory picture of a fetus, to which I said if it's not sentient, it's that person's decision. Then they started yelling that I needed to repent. I got a kick out of that after their denial that they were trying to force their religion on everyone else. All the while, the lights were changing and they were stuck in the crosswalk when the sign had expired, so I yelled at them for breaking the rules and that they need to get the hell out of the way.

Good times. Knee does seem significantly better a few days later...but still may need knife-age.

I have a prescription for medication that needs to be filled through a specialty pharmacy. Every time I call I get told they have no record of my prescription and to have my doctor send it back in. I assure them my doctor sent it in as I have a confirmation in my electronic records. And every time I get told to have my doctor send it back in, which they do with great patience. Then I call back the specialty pharmacy and they still can't find it. I pretty much have to call back in, get really fucking mad to the point of yelling before someone bothers to click whatever button they need to do to find my prescription. Then everything is fine.

I have no option to use a different pharmacy as my insurance requires me to use this one. I can only assume they are in cahoots with each other to litterally make the process so painful that I just give up on trying to fill my prescription.

If this happens again you can still get them to write a handwritten script. I've had to do that as recently as a year ago for the same bullshit.

You gotta get the thing and drive it over which in seattle may take a few months but you can at least get it filled.

Nope. The "specialty" pharmacy has no local locations and is mail order only. I believe they are physically located in Michigan.

My doctor and several normal pharmacies are all within walking distance if that was an option.

Well look at THIS great new invention.

What a time to be alive I tell ya. Ain't it somethin'

edit: actually if that's the case why can't the physician just initiate the mailing. Oh right, that would make sense.

Well the local pharmacy chain was recently bought by Rite-Aid and now what used to take a few hours now can take a few days. Which is fun when you need things like uh, medicine.

I'd write a letter to your insurance company and explain the situation and ask them to respond, give them 10 business days to respond, send the letter registered mail return receipt (that gets noticed wherever it's sent). Tell them dates and how the situation keeps happening.

Ah, should be fun to see our out of pocket expense for the birth of our child. Had a good chuckle with the parents, since it cost $50/kid for my parents and $10/kid for the wife's parents.

Closest guess wins nothing except the personal satisfaction at being the closest.

Hospital sent wife's bill to an outside collection agency a full two weeks before the due date. WTF is this nonsense?

Like, enjoy getting less money cause you wanted it now instead of by your self-set due date?

What a mess.

I remember getting a bill from a doctor while I was in the hospital. The hospital was in-network with insurance, but this specialist who came to see me in my room was a contract player who was out-of-network. He even used to be a hospital staff member, but he decided to go independent and still do the same job at the same place, just alter his billing structure. There was a lot of "fuck you" correspondence sent his way for his "gotcha" visit and billing.

F*ckin BC/BS. They said they'd cover the AmberLamps ride, so they sent me a check for it. When I saw they were saying they weren't covering it online, I called and asked what was up. They said it was covered due to No Surprises Act, but that the should have done it directly with the company, not by sending me a check. Said they'd stop payment on the check, then reimburse the company, but it may take a month or more. So today I get a new freaking check for the amount of the ride, like back to square one. I guess I'll just deposit it and pay them, but these people can't get their fucking act together.

Actually mykel, you Can do that. I know due to an Insane ongoing matter with my Wife. So I’ll try to explain.

I was hit with ongoing Bills from my Wife‘s ER visit. As the Bills came in,one after another from different Dr’s,160,338 dollars from the Same Night I was confused? I spent a Long Time with the Insurance explaining this was In Network! Why am I getting these Bills? Finally I got the answer.

One can be in the correct In Network Hosiptal, and be billed for Out of Network? It is confusing but here is the gest.

Dr’s came in,including Head of ER as I sat there and listened to the wife answer endless question’s. I thought they were All in Network, but they were not. Dr’s can come in and treat you and bill it differently, unless you know.

So,about 6 mounths later, Avy had Extreme stomach pain and after 5 days I went to ER. The Dr. was a women and came in with 3 nurses as I answer her Questions. Avy,I am sending you ASAP for a MRI for proper treatment. Check I said, meanwhile,I am on IV of dilaudid and they are drawing Blood every hour. I prefer dilaudid to morpheme all day long. So,there I am and the Beautiful Dr. comes back and sais,Avy you have a hole in you’re shitter tube leaking into the body. I need to check you for 3 days and move you to a room. Check.

Now I am doped up and waiting for a ICU room to open up. Then a New Dr.comes In with a clipboard. So Avy,what is you’re problem? What I say? Who the Fuck are you? I already know what time it is. Dr.,are you pamf?(my network). Exuse me he said? I repeat’ed my question. No he said. Then I refuse you’re service and go away. Another came in later, same thing I said. I fell asleep after that.

I wish I had that knowledge with the Wife’s visit.

The point is knowledge like all matters in life. One assumes the Dr’s are covered, but they are not. Now I don’t Fuck about. Hope this helps someone. Do not get me started on the Health Care.

Which brings up an idea.

When they ask you to sign the BS paperwork before you get treated, sign "only for in-network" with your name? Fuck, why didn't I think of this before?

Jm,that is a great idea as well. I did the paperwork that day in the ER room and was in Mad Pain. I could not even stand up straight cause it hurt to much. Point being, when we are in pain it is probably best to have family or Wife do the paperwork If possible. My dumbass did not with the wife right next tome. Anyway, they Always have that Stupid I Pad on wheels come to you and take you’re Medical ID. Next time I’m going to tell the I Pad guy exactly what you just said to put on his stupid fucking screen with a visual to confirm.

To finish that story. I was woke up at midnight with alarms going off and beeping! What the Fuck I said! The Nurse,God Bless Her,said,Im fucking moving you to ICU that’s what! Oh,Thank You I said, you’re welcome.

The next Morning 3 Dr.’s came in. My new Dr,my Gut Dr.and the Head Dr. I ask each Dr. If they were my Network, they were. So,4 days in ICU plus ER,cost me 1000 Dollars. I can not complain about that Bill. It is a game with rules that change,I’m just tryin to stay on Top. What if those Dr.s were not my Network, such as my Wife’s visit? Crazy Money, that’s what.
