I had my first problem with my Mavic 3.1 UST rims last night. Some how while riding in a rocky section of trail I cut my valve stem. So here is my problem. This was my first flat with the UST system. I pulled the wheel on the side of the trail to put a tube in it. I still cant figure out how I cut the stem. It took me over a half hour to put a tub in it. How the hell do you brake the bead and then re seat the tire with no leavers? I understand that they my damage the bead but screw walking back to my truck. Next my problem is with trying to replace the valve. I work for a shop so I can get stuff cheaper normally. My only supplier with the valves wants $8.50 and that’s at hole sail. I’m sorry but that’s just high way robbery for a part I can cut out of a $1 tube. I call Notubes.com and they want $8 reatal. They also wont prodeal it to me. So I figure fine suck it up and pay for it. I fill out the online order and this happens. I live in PA they are in NY. The only choice for shipping is USPS 1st class. that’s $7 now we are talking $15 for a part worth maybe 50 cents. I don’t know about any one eals but I feel like im being ripped off big time here. I’m tempted to cut my rims out and build wheels with normal rims. I have never cut a valve down on a tube and if I ever do it will take me 10min to fix and will only coast me $1. Is it just me or has any one eels had this problem?

If you are that annoyed and money is that big a deal, then don't cut out your rims, just use a tube. Fits right in, don't even need a rim strip.

I did not do it on a tubeless rim but made a poor mans tubeless rim with an old stem and electrical tape. Held air but the tire kept coming off of the bead.

But perhaps a rare thing so not big a deal in the scope of things. Its dead easy to remove a UST tire from an X3.1. Push the bead into the center well. Pops right off no sweat. You will probably have to overinflate the tire to get it to re-seat. No big deal.

Its not so mutch the money but the point of the thing. I have always bin annoyed that the bicycle industry thinks it ok to make a 400% prophet on something. I’m looking at it as I can make somthing to fix my problem for a lot less. So im working on a new stem system now. I made a quick Fix last night and it seems to be holding. I basically took an old tube cut the valve out and put 2 O rings on it. Then put a nut on the out side of the rim. For right now its holing air. I have a larger rubber washer to go on the inside of the rim I just need to get a longer valve. I’m betting I will have it all worked out tomorrow when I can get back in to the shop it work on it.

What are you selling you basic greenfield kickstands for?

We sell them for $5, but most shops sround here sell them for $10. (Just an example - mostly I agree with you.)

Kickstand: $7.95 400% would be about $11.50
Maybe I should rephrase myself a bit, we don't make big margins on things that sell for more than a few bucks. I make a good margin on tubes, but I still got to sell 50 to net a $100
