I want to do a helmet cam on the cheap. I'm too lazy to spend a week researching my options. Can anyone point me in the direction of a cheap dv cam? I've seen a couple in the $200-$250 range. Are these good enough or would the resulting videos be terrible quality? And is there any option other than viosport for the helmet cam itself?

The quality will be based on the actually helmet cam you get, the dv camera is going to basically be a record deck so I wouldnt see a problem with getting the 250 dollar dv camera.
This Samsung kit has everything you need and records direct to digital media. I can't speak for the quality but it is an integrated kit that is cheaper than what most people end up paying buy the time they are done getting a viosport, separate camera, and the extras like a remote switch, etc.

Recording in MPEG4 to digital media isn't a very good capture format IMO.OGRipper said:

If he's set on using a lipstick cam his cheapest route is a used mini dv from ebay and the best lipstick cam that he can afford.
