As far as I remember... the romic fix involved drilling some hole a little bit wider to allow more oil to flow through, thus preventing compression spiking or some other undesirable suspension characteristic like that.

The blackbox upgrade was something you could purchase from RS that upgraded the base rebound damper (I think it was rebound... not positive) to what came stock w/ the '04 boxxers.

I'm not sure if that's right, but that's what I remember... someone else should be able to explain it better.

I bought a 03 boxxer race, item says black box upgrade with romic fix.
What is black box upgrade and is romic fix possible after or before on a boxxer race?
What are they and what do they do.
Is it a good thing?
No, it is not possible to do the romic mod on a boxxer race because the boxxer race has no compression damper.

The black box upgrade is a metal rebound base valve, it has more flow so it shouldn't spike more, but it may decrease your rebound adjustment (logically this is so, but I've never directly compared between one that had it and one that did not).

:stupid:

the BB upgrade only works on the Team/WC but not the race.

I did experience the spiking issue first hand. Back in 03 RS upgraded my fork with the new H2 - this was at the NORBA race in Idaho. It was horrible - my fork felt like it was constantly bottoming out, especially down that gnarly section after alter boy. But my travel indicator (simply o-ring on the stanchion) was telling me that I wasn't getting anywhere near 7" of travel - more like 4.5"

They then installed the BB upgrade - red base valve in the rebound leg - and everything was back to normal.

Since you do have a Boxxer team, you can make the fix. It is really simple. Pull the compression damper, and you'll see a little hole that is there to allow oil flow. I've tried two things, Drill it larger, and drilling a second hole as well. What I've found to work the best is drilling the hole larger, and then continuing on through the damper and drilling another hole on the opposite side. The size I've always used is a 5/32" bit. Good Luck. If you have any questions, e-mail me michael.howse@colorado.edu

No problem. I hope that helps make it work better for you.

dyu know how to improve a boxxer race? :D i'm hesitating to use that BB upgrade since that would make my rebound faster. i'm only 130 lbs... dnt want it to act like a pogo stick.

Sorry, don't know about fixing a race......you could try lighter springs and oil. My personal setup is 5wt oil with 2 soft springs, or 1 stock spring in the right leg and a psylo air top cap on the left leg pumped to 5 psi. I weigh around 130 as well. Good luck.
