Hi there,

right now Im running some Outlaws in my 951. I'm looking for something that is as strong, but lighter and UST.

Right now my 951 is sitting at 42 lbs. and I want to reach 40 (Ti Spring and sdg saddle will be the next things).

Outlaws weight:
Front: 1118 Grams
Rear: 1328 Grams

Sixe: 20mm F / 12x150 R

Preferably available in grey color. Black would be second choice.

Budget: Under $400. I know its hard, but thats all I can pay right now.

Thanks!

Hope hubs are some of the lightest you can get for 12x150, especially at the price. highly recommended

I found ex823 rims at 54 bucks. A Hope pro 2 front hub for 89, and rear for 230... That sums up 427 (+spokes).

Im not sure about the weight of this setup though..
Good searching. New 823s (Different stickers afaik) retail for around $100... Are you lacing them yourself? Don't forget labor...

The rim pictured on that ebay add is OLD!!! and not at all what the current 823 is. The pre '05 (what is shown) did NOT hold up very well.....

Think about it, why on earth would any shop sell a very highly demanded and popular rim as LESS that they cost wholesale...

come on...

If you are shooting for low weight the EX823 might not get you where you want to be not to mention your going to blow your budget out of the water in most cases. Why not pick a nice light and durable rim, hope hubs, DB spokes and run them tubeless using a conversion kit/method? The weight should be the same or less than the EX823 wheelset and you could get into that price range you're looking for.

Here's an example from chainreactioncycles.com:
Hope Pro 2 Disc Front 20mm 32h Black
$0.00
Sun Ringle MTX 29 Welded Rim 32h Black 26inch
$28.40
DT Swiss Spokes Competition Stainless DB Black 2mm-1.8mm
$7.10
Hope Pro 2 Disc Rear 12mm 150mm XL 32h Black 150mm
$14.20
Sun Ringle MTX 29 Welded Rim 32h Black 26inch
$28.40
DT Swiss Spokes Competition Stainless DB Black 2mm-1.8mm
$7.10
Selected Package Price:
$380.51 with free shipping

You could of course choose a different rim, that's just for comparison's sake.

I was wondering what the deal with that old 823 was. I have a spare one sitting around. Some shop laced it up to a XTR hub for some reason. I bought it on clearance for $110 and sold the hub for $100. So for $10 its a deal. But if its not that strong I may use it for a front wheel not a replacement rear.

Anyway, I have a set of 823s (new rims) on Hope Pro IIs. They're not as light as I expected, low 2200s I think. Not exactly heavy either though, I just thought they'd be closer to the DeeMax weight of 2160. Anyway, great set of wheels, they're in good shape after a year of racing.

The old style EX823 rims were about 90 grams lighter per rim, but they are less strong for sure. Jsut get some ZTR Flow rims and make those tubeless, way light rim, and they are said to be pretty strong

The old 823 makes a good front wheel.

The 823 has been a great wheelset for me and lasted several seasons and has only been run tubeless with Maxxis DHF UST 2.5 tires. That said one of the guys I ride with did not have good luck with the rear wheel. What wheel set works out for you depends on weight, riding style and proper maintenance.
