i use it mostly in the car.
hook into my factory head unit changer plug
via RCA-headphone male.

i also have power coming from behind the dash.

so battery life is no real issue.

sub $300

G's of HD

drag and drop, no priority software!

i think this would be nice with its remote i could attach to

the dash area.

I've had an ipod for 2 years now and love it. I have a 3g and they were known to have problems but the apple warranty is amazing and thats one of the best things. I run it into my car through a audio out on the bottom then it goes to RCA input on the back of my deck.

I love my ipod and plan to upgrade and get a 60gb photo one at the end of summer to upgrade since my music collection keeps growing.

Almost forgot, my friend got a iriver 20gb and its a cool little thing just something to check out if you wanna use napster music service or something else then the itunes music store. It has a nice interface and mostly just copies the ipod imo but improves in some areas but falls short in otheres.

im an ipod lover too, and they are super easy to use.
so people think itunes is only for buying music, but you can rip every cd you have onto it and put your songs from other downloading programs aswell

Have a look at the iriver h320 (20Gb) and h340 (40g), it's drag and drop, and the computer just recognises it as a USB drive.

There are players out there better than the iPod and you found one of them - I don't know if you can get an Cowon HDD based unit for under $300 though (unless they are blowing out the 3 series).

The Rio Karma is still a better player than iPod and its a generation behind. You can get them for about $200.

If its just for your car, they make some other larger units that might suit you well - my friend has a Modix HD-3510 which he uses with his TV and loves it. You can use it in your car with a DC adapter and they actually mention that on the product homepage plus if you get a display in your car you could hook that up:

I am going to pick up an MP3 player myself.
I think I have decided on the Rio Carbon.
Its a 5 gig that is small and is supposedly easy to use.
Pretty much all I care about.
Anybody got any feedback or other suggestions?

According to the main editor at http://www.dapreview.net/ the Carbon is the best mini player followed by the ipod mini. I've never owned or used a mini HDD player besides an old 1.5 GB iriver unit, so check out the forums there if you have questions.
