I built up a new hardtail for some fast and flowy rides. Not an XC race bike. A 32lb, cromo, 150mm fork, beater HT. I put 2.6" Special-Ed Purgatory tires on with the GRID sidewalls. I like the concept, but the tread is too aggressive for the fast rolling, part road riding. I used to like the tread pattern of the ol' Panaracer Fire XC Pro's. They rolled well on the road and handled the hard pack/small pebbles just fine and didn't wear out in 2 rides. I admit, that their compound wasn't the best and the sidewalls were made of paper.

I'm looking for a profile similar to them that has somewhat deep knobs, not too close or far apart. They need to handle asphalt without being bald after a 12 mile road ride.

The catch? 27.5 x 2.6 and strong sidewalls, yet not DH tires. I think 2.5's would be fine too.

Let me know what your thoughts are.
