Help! Nasty Stiction in Rear Linkage (old, cheap bike)

Hello everybody,

I've got an old Diamondback DBR X2 that I recently acquired and it has been neglected.

The rear linkage has 7 pivot points if you include both ends of the shock. All of the swingarm ones and the top link have a bushing inside of a plastic sleeve with a wide face. It seems like nylon would have been a better material than whatever they used. The stuff that's on there isn't all that slick and I think the combination of all these is responsible for the horrible stiction.

Aside from going all out and completely replacing them all with something custom, is there anything I could do to alleviate some of the stiction? Nylon washers? Some sort of super duper lubricant? I just don't think even the lightest grease will solve it.

Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions. Other than throw the bike away and get something decent anyway, ha ha.

Cheers

yea those are igus bushings. super lame. anywho. shop guy told me not to lube them because they get that color and dirty. those are kinda self lubricating in a way. so just make sure notihng was over tightened. also could be contaminated rear shock AKA gettin gunk on the inside making it stick. i would say if you arent really attached to this just get a newer frame.

oh yea i tried swaping out the bushings with a another plastic, it doesnt work haha.

Thanks for the comments.

Not attached so much, just poor/cheap.

Some of it probably is due to the shock itself, but I verified how bad the rest of the linkage was w/o the shock in there.

Oh well, I guess I'll just reassemble and live with it. While making sure they aren't too tight.

Cheers

Hmm, conflicting advice. What's a monkey to do?

I'll just keep messin' with it and post up if I ever find anything that works.

It kinda seems like a bad place for grease with all the dirt flying around back there. I dunno.
