I have yet to order one or collect the funds. But I have found two that I like. Either the Evil DRS or the MRP LRP. I found the DRS for $115-120 new and the LRP for $90.00 new. I'm tempted to go with the MRP because its cheaper and I have no job and no income. But I've heard good things about the DRS.

Now, if I go with the DRS I'm thinking of switching my 32t chainring for a 36t. Is that a wise decision?

Thanks.

Hey man,

What kind of bike are you riding, wht type of terrain, and how much climbing are you doing?

If you are riding mormal trails, I think that the 36T is the way to go on the DRS guide. The 36T is nice because you can still leg out some big hills in the 36-32 combop, and have a good amount of speed on the DH. The 32 really limits your speed on downhills and flats.

Let me know some info on your specific situation and I'll try to be more specific.

I used to ride the LRP and it was okay. My chain derailed les than with no chainguide, but nothing like a single ring system. But in my opinion it was way too much money for what it was. $90 for a bashguard, roller, and a simple machined half boomerang?!?!?!?!?

....you are probably near Salt Lake city...*groan* Mormans  sorry just a stupid joke.

Hey FoXRider,

I just picked up a DRS for my HT. It is a pretty solid set up. I would suggest it. Climbed and descended with it recently and never had issues with it. Listen to DW about the gearing. I asked the same question myself recently and it makes sense. If you are low on funds just keep what you have because you can definately still motor around on a 32 until a time coems when you can spend the $ to get the bigger ring.

For the $25 diff I would get the DRS and skip the ring until later.

Currently I have a 22/32/Bashguard set-up. I know I can run the DRS with the 22/32 but will it still put tension on the chain?

I ride a Haro X3. No mods at the moment. Mostly I freeride and hit some dirt jumps. I've DHed 4 times this summer and really like it. So I'm looking for some chain security because it keeps falling off.

OK cool. If you pkan to do a good amount of DH ing on your bike, then the 36 will be awesome. Ive spent a lot of time DHing with My Imperial and a DRS. I have gone with both the 32 and the 36 (and a bunch of other combos) and the 36T is my personal preference. The DRS will keep your chain on solid, and you can beat the hell out of the bashguard on those DH runs.

I know it was a joke. I'm going to order it in the next week. Should I attempt to install it myself? Or just go to the bike shop and spend more money to have them put it on?

Good.

Notice my use of smilies....even if you were for real I was just having fun.

It is up to you on installation. If you have half a clue about BB and how to space things go for it. Be truethfull to yourself and what you are comfortable and have the tools to do.

It isn't very technical. If you have the tools and have changed a BB before give it a shot. It should be straight forward....it was for me though I had a friend near by for questions and help if I ran into anything. I am using a BMX 3pc cranks so it was easier (spacing the drive line) and harder (tensinoing a 3pc BB when reassembling) than a Std BB.

Take a look at it and if you are comfortable throw it on.

Good luck :thumb:

there is really only one good chainguide, and its EVIL! MRP sucks!
I don't find much wrong with the MRP design. It is simple and clean.

The one thing I dislike is the plates as they tend to deform much on impact...ruining the guide until they are straightened out. I like the Evil bash guard/plate....bullet proof ;)

I would say if you have a MRP (single set up) atleast get the evil bash guard and save yourself a headache. If you don't have a guide yet go Evil.

I have run the old Mr Dirt chain guide (pre-Gizmo) and a Black Spire Single ring. The MR Dirt is pretty much a joke.....Black spire was better. Though I never got the white plastic roller to work right so I replaced it with a MRP roller. It seams the BS guide ring is stronger than the MRP's I see all beat up. I just installed an Evil on my DH bike and have yet to take her out. I am waiting on a new cranks/BB to put it all back together. My teammates have run MRP and Evils and the Evils have been better over all but as I said before I think the weakest spot in the MRP is the bashring deforming and dropping the chain. The boomerang on the MRP is a little thin if you are going to be smacking it alot too......

It isn't that the MRP is crap, it is the Evil is just that much better.
