Thanks, Beth!

After our conversation in the GMT thread yesterday, I clicked over to Nashbar and checked it out. Not bad at all....

I'm pretty stoked on the Dinotte 5W bar mount and the 3W headlamp LED. Looks like a good combo. But I haven't ruled out those L&M's, either.

I have a super dumb question.
You guys that use lights, do any of you use for something like dirt jumping? I am building trails at my house, and I could use some lights for this, but I don't how sketchy it would be.

They're getting better and brighter as more companies jump into the mix. Long run times, long bulb life, instant on/off, coupled with light, Li Ion batteries(and compact NiMh AA) make for a pretty durable beamer. They're not as "bright" as HID's, but the "color" of the light seems like it lights the trail in a more natural fashion. I'm not at all saying they're better than HID's or anything---just an alternative light source that may someday take the place of HID's.

That's what I use on my road bike and as a helmet/spare light during 24hr races. I wouldn't use it as my only off road light though.

I would totally NOT jump with a light. I would get some floodlights for that. I have roped a ton of steers under lights and you don't have to spend a fortune to have a good light set up around a small area.

Thanks for the scoop Greyhound!
No problem........although I wouldn't take my word as gospel. I'm definately a newb in the lighting world, but have done a buttload of research into it over the last few weeks, so I'm kinda getting an understanding as to what my needs are vs. what is available in my price range.

just checked and it seems like Nashbar raises their prices on the things they run on sale. Hmm...When I got the Arc, it wasn't a light sale, it was an eerything 20% off sale so the price wasn't inflated and then only slightly reduced. Bastards.

bluebug, I think you got a really good deal...

I just checked nashbar and they are listing the arc at $389.95. WTF? Anybody have any suggestions for a light that costs in the neighborhood of $200 to $250? It looks like HID is out in that price range. Bummer.
