Wow...just wow. What ever happened to love the sinner, hate the sin? Your God is not the same one I follow...

No, actually Im pretty sure it's the same magical sky wizard as the one you worship. The bible's pretty clear about the "no fags" thing.

BTW, when did news writers start quoting other journalists as if they're somehow involved in the story?

"You might wonder how is this man still employed in the attorney general's office," CNN's Anderson Cooper observed in a Tuesday-night segment

Media on that level turned into a circle jerk a long time ago. You remember the "Scud Stud" from Gulf War Episode 1? Or was it Episode 4? I can't keep up with how we number those...

I do have to say that quoting Anderson Cooper in a story about a guy who is probably a closeted homosexual like Pesqueeb speculates is a stroke of genius in it's own right.

oh snap! it's the bigoted christian public servant vs. the LBGT(+ whatever new letters have been added this week) militia.

i'll wait 'til 11:00 and watch the highlights
I see you've moved from "gestapo" to "militia". You keep moving left at this pace and you'll be sucking cock before the end of the year. :thumb:

lol...no, actually, i was making a comparison between the fervor of the tea party and their being labeled as militia types. gestapo conjures images, at least in my mind, of secrecy and organization. i just found militia to be a better suited word for the LBGT frothers ;)

Really, gay people are basically Nazis by just existing.

Steven Weinberg seems apt here...

With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil — that takes religion.

lulz.

Shirley, having spent a few years in Catholic schools, I can tell you that the bible is not clear on anything.
Oh please, Jewish and Christian apologists have to do semantic acrobatics that would make Clinton proud to try to get out of:

Leviticus 18:22 - "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination."

Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them."

Crystal clear. Smear the queers.

umm.....

There's some pretty crazy sh!t in that particular book. I'm pretty sure that no modern (not fundamentalist) Christians claim to follow the book of Leviticus to the T.

People love to take one line out of the Bible and say "look what I found".
Here are some other good ones from Leviticus that no one seems concerned about:

Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)

Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9)

Choosing to ignore something because it's crazy isn't the same thing as it not being there. And you hear those two particular anti-gay verses repeated with some regularity in the modern church, no? I know I have.

I think what you're saying is that most/many christians these days wouldn't condone this guy's actions (not that I'd agree with that) but I think you'd have a hard time finding christians who actually think homosexuality is okay.

Yeah, they are called Christians. The same people who form the racist backbone of the TeaTards and the GOP.

They also manage to ignore all the stuff about Jesus and social justice, and claim that the bible supports social Darwinism.

It's simple really. Finding what is the right answer is just like a puzzle.

If I wanted to put together a puzzle, I'd use pieces that match up and can mate together. That way...the puzzle stays together and the message in the picture stays clear.

I would not ram a bulbous corner into a tiny hole and slide two slitted ones against each other to reveal a garbled up jumble of crap. :thumb:

Oh, so it's all about utility? I don't think there's really a mature debate to be had about whether hot man-on-man action serves any reproductive function. It clearly doesn't, but then again niether does getting a vasectomy or wearing a rubber. Im in favor of all three (and abortion and the death penalty and limits on children and swine flu) just because there's too many people.

No one cares what preacher X has to say on Sunday. This discussion was based on the assertion that the FSM does not approve of faggotry.

The answer is clear if you are a Jew and follow the teachings in the Torah / Old Testament. If you are a Christian it's not really clear, the Old Testament is back story and more or less a non issue as J-dazzle started a new covenant between God and man.

P.S. here's your daily dose of intolerance

I still don't see how it's not clear unless you have some other passage from the same book refuting it. If it doesn't matter what the bible says and doesn't matter what the preachers say and it doesn't matter what the masses believe, exactly WTF does matter?

Every Christian denomination I know of has the following view of the Old Testament, more or less:

It contains valuable lessons and teachings but the teachings of the New Testament, not the Old Testament are the ones you must follow as Jesus' teachings reveal a new era in the dealings between the FSM and man.

This is required for the Christian understanding of the bible as the Old T and New T are often at odds.

As soon as you start picking and choosing what you follow and what you don't, you are now imposing YOUR morality on the book, not letting the book (the infallible word of God), define your morality. So really the book is irrelevant... you've just invalidated the argument that without religion people wouldn't be moral.

For Christians the Old T was the infallible word of God. Then the FSM changed his mind/noodle.

It has pulled this a couple of times. Their was the OG covenant with Abraham, the new covenant with Moses (I think Noah got a covenant too), and the blingbling covenant between JC, God, and man.

Except of course The Creation. That's still EXACTLY what happened, literally, word-for-word. Everything else (stoning adulterers, marrying your dead-brother's wife, no Poly-cotton blend clothing, etc) is negotiable.

Intended sarcasm level: Medium

Obviously there are more liberal-leaning churches in this country (I grew up going to one), but it just blows my mind that people can sit there eating their pork and bacon sandwich (forbidden by God), wearing a poly-cotton-blend shirt (forbidden by God), in the vicinity of a woman who is menstruating (forbidden by God), next to an un-stoned adulterer (forbidden by God) and claim that while all of those things are ok, the following is still ABSOLUTELY true:

1) Creation happened in 6 days. No exceptions.
2) Homosexuals are evil.
3) The Earth is only 10,000 years old because the bible is the world's best genealogy book.

Even the relatively liberal church that I grew up in would avoid hot-button issues for the most part, but I still had to go to listen to guest speakers tell me that Evolution is scientifically impossible, that God planted the dinosaur bones to test our faith, etc.
