at least you aren't coached by mike shanahan...
Do not like.
Sorry to hear it. They are doing good things with knees these days so at least you can look forward to getting back to normal at some point. However if you are serious about it there are faster ways to get back on the slopes.
He should rest both knees and go with this...
DUDE! WTF?? That sucks. How bad is the ACL tear?
Sorry mang. Heal up. You'll be dancing before Spring.
Double crap. How long does it take to have something like that heal up?
If its non-surgical, 4-8 weeks.
Sorry to hear that. Wifey went through a double surgery of torn ACL, torn meniscus and damaged patella in the past couple of years and unfortunately, she has become too mental about it. Stay positive and you will heal up soon!
Doc says most likely a full tear but an MRI will show how much damage. I had the MRI this morning.
Two major knee surgeries and I'm only 40. Not real happy about that.
I am sure it will give some sort of joy later in life. I have an old injury that is letting itself know once in a while.
I am already looking forward to knee replacement after retirement if not sooner.
What is the typical effective life span of a knee replacement?
Pretty sure a knee replacement is permanent. I'm only kidding (ok, half kidding) about needing knee replacement. From what I've read, I have a greater chance of needing a new knee later in life if I do not get the ACL repaired now.
I guess this means a lot more biking and a lot less running for me this year, which I know will make the monkeys happy. And certainly not another marathon until at least 2014.
The life span of an artificial knee is around 10 years.
Well plenty of sweet trail and xc bikes to keep you happy.
Sorry to hear about your knee.
Do you still own a mountain bike?
Flipping through the channels one day I came across a video of a knee replacement surgury. I have a pretty strong stomach but JHFC that was terrible, surgeon was more of a carpenter: saws, hammers, chisels, etc. I am sure there are youtube vids available today if anyone needs to cut down on their appetite.
A friend of the family is an orthopedic surgeon. He showed me a video of himself doing a knee replacement. Yeah....they are not gentle. a lot more hammering than you'd expect.
Not to mention that to get at the knee to do work they essentially 'de-bone' your leg.
My wife just had her right Knee replaced. Norco was her best for a week.
ouch...that sucks to hear IAB.
Being injured sucks, braa
hope you heal up fast
Thanks, everyone! I got the MRI results today. ACL tear, lateral meniscus tear, bone bruising (micro fractures). They are scheduling surgery. I'm kind of happier now...I should be riding again by early spring and running again in the summer.
I tell ya, tearing your ACL is one hell of a painful injury to experience. I got to do it twice!
What the heck happened? Bad fall?
No. After reading an email about donuts in the breakroom, he got tripped up in his office chair while sprinting for the goods.
I wish it could say it was something spectacular, but I hit some ice at a moderate speed and fell trying to turn away from someone. It wasn't a hard crash but an awkward one. I have fallen a lot harder than that without injury.
MBC has turned into just "someone" now?
Good to hear. I will assume that MBC is actually doing the surgery for you.
She doesn't do well with blood and guts.
Surgery is Feb 5. ACL re-reconstruction, or as the doc calls it, "ACL revision."
I'll be riding again before the snow melts. For this, I am pleased.
Good luck, Phil!
Splat told me about your deal IAB.
Prob told me cuz I been there ...with 2 ACL breaks and the "revision" surgery.
My second was much better that the 1st, but it's never quite the same with some meniscus cushion missing.
I hit Mt Snow pretty hard this past Saturday. Knee was bit lil wobbly by end of day, but luckly no falls.
Have patience ..and best wishes on your speedy recovery.
You're in great shape and trim ... that will help.
