Wow. It's amazing to see how effective MTV has been at misleading the youth of today. Who else in their right mind would think that Lil John and 50 Cent are actually talented musicians?

Real hip-hop lies here: Talib Kweli, Zion I, Hieroglyphics, Swollen Members, Dilated Peoples, Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Eyedea & Abilities, AWOL One, Mos Def, Anticon, RJD2, Jurassic 5, Gang Starr.

Radio rap is scat filled with corn. Turn that crap off.

Here are some of my favorite artists:

People Under the Stairs
Gang Starr (just buy the decade greatest hits deal)
Blackalicious (buy Blazing Arrow for sure)
A Tribe Called Quest (at least get Anthology)
Jurrassic 5
Talib Kweli
Mos Def
Black Starr (Talib and Mos together - Must have.)
The Roots
Afu Ra/ Body of the Lifeforce
Styles of Beyond
Binary Star
Jay-Z's "Grey Album mix is worth a spin as well.
And if you gotta get the Gangster stuff, get the good old school stuff.
Nas - Illmatic (about the best rap CD ever.)
Wu Tang - 36 Chambers
Biggie - Ready to Die

8 Ball and MJG
Sheek Louch
Wu Tang Clan
Brotha Lynch Hung
Mike Jones and others from Swisha House
The RZA

Talib Kwali
Mos Def
Aesop Rock

As you can prolly tell I like the whole spectrum of hip hop, not just Gansta Rap and not just good hip hop. I like alot of Queens Brigde stuff because I used to live 1 mile away from the QB projects in Queens NY. I also like alot of west coast stuff specifically Brotha Lynch and Yukmouth. Alot of Brotha Lynch is pretty hard stuff, and so is X Raided.
But by far my favorite rap artists come from Queens Bridge, I can relate alot to their music and the way they view things. But that is another story for another day I suppose.
