Dan the Automater did a record with Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk) called Lovage: Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By. It's absolutely one of the coolest things I've heard in a LONG time. The "Artist" is actually listed as Nathaniel Merriweather, so look for it under that. It's very trip-hoppy, Gorillaz, gothic-funk, über cool!

yes. best rap release of all time.

although boards of canada aren't rap, if you like that electronic sorta stuff check out lemon jelly or to rococo rot. kriedler ain't so bad either. some of the basic channel stuff is cool to listen to as well (monolake, porter ricks, etc). if you've got a good record store, ask for the good german or austrian stuff.

DJ Krush (not hip hop but his previous release Code 4109 is filled with dope beats)
he is definatly hip hop...everything after the Krush CD (which is more jazz influenced) is very hip hop oriented...some great rap on there as well...

Also check out DJ food and the Herbalizer.

Shoo, your definition of what hip hop is differs from mine. Krush is a Dj not an MC to the best of my knowledge. I would be interested in some examples of the hip hop Krush has been into. His latest release sure doesn't back up your claim.

my 2 cents,
b

I don't really consider hip hop to be only rap...the beats define hip hop to me...but I see where you are coming from. I have ton's on instrumental hip hop on 12". Hip hop and rap are joined...but they can both be indipenent of each other.

He has had a lot of MC's on hios albums...CL Smooth, Black Thought and Malik B all MCed on Meiso. And on Milight there where MC's (Mcing in all different languages). Given he is much slower and more laid back and minimal than a lot of hip hop...but I catagorize him in there...Trip hop also comes to mind...

Hip hop to me is beats, style, orginality, and lyrics. I find it hard to place Krush in any genre due to his incredible talent. Have you listened to the OM lounge compilations, Groove Armada, Thievery Conspiracy? Those guys aren't hip hop in but I think if you like Krush you would appreciate them.

I am interested in the ambient tracks you laid out how long have you been studying.

Here's another one for the books:

Oh yeah, peep any old Artifacts albums you can find those guys were breaking it down in the early 90's. Really progressive style.

I dig beats so send them if you got'em.

b

I have OM lounge 4 and 5 on 12" and Theivery Coporation (I assume thats who you mean?) is awesome I have their newest album on 12" and spin it all the time...it's in high rotation.

I have been listening to chillout, House, and Techno for about 10 years now. Though I have only been DJing for about 4. I spin just about everything smooth...Minimal Techno (Plastikman, DBX, etc), Deep House, Funky/Disco House, Chillout/Lounge, some Hip Hop, Ambient (I once spun a 6 hour ambient set at a rave...good stuff), Experimental (Amon Tobin, Squarepusher, etc), and some DUB. I often mix it all together in to extended sets...more fun that way...I can progress across a bunch of styles so the set never gets boring...

I also do lighting and lasers for raves all over the north east. Great fun.
