im am about to go and get a hollow bolt top cap, to i can route my front brake through the steerer tube, and i was woundering if i needed a new star fangled nut, and if so, how hard is it to replace one.
Pretty sure that you need to replace it, because the opening for the cable would be about the same size as the threads on the old topcap bolt. With that said, installing a new starfangled nut wouldn't be that hard. You would just knock the new one in on top of the old one and press it further down the steerer tube.
On another note, have you thought about just drilling a hole in your regular topcap? You know, next to the bolt hole. Strenght wouldn't matter, because once the stem bolts are tight, there is virtually no load on the topcap.
